Demi Lovato & Selena Gomez interview with Sun Media: Demi: 'It's easier
to look up to somebody when they're older than you. Whereas if they're older, sometimes they have issues, even as a person, just talking to their friends and saying, 'Yeah, I look up to someone who's younger than me.'
It's kind of an ego thing with everybody. I think it's weirder when I get fans who are older than me, waiting for me outside my hotel, but they're 22. It's not weird, actually, it's just interesting to me, because you typically look up to older people. When the older college students, the cool kids, think that I'm cool, it's really encouraging.'
Selena on her fans:
'I love kids and I know I have a younger crowd, I get that. I just want to be respected by people my age. I don't necessarily want to have fans who are my age. I would just love to be respected.. The hardest part for me is the fame part. I love that kids look up to me.
But people start getting curious about personal life, which makes me kind of sad because then it's not about the career any more, it's about who I'm friends with. That's a bit of a bummer. But that's okay, I know that comes with it.'
Demi said she was singing and performing at a very young age, and on days off from school, her mom would give her a choice: She could stay inside and learn a song, or go out and play with her friends and not perform that weekend. 'My choice always was performing. I was a heavy thinker, even back then.' INF.

People fail to understand that even though Hannah Montana or Miley or Destiny or whoever had a show before Selena, Selena was acting way before she was. I believe Selena deserves the amount of fame Miley/Destiny/Hannah has, because for one, she doesn't take advantage of it, she's a good role model and she CAN sing. I was doubtful before, but hearing the one and the same song, she sounds pretty good compared to what people think is good these days. She isn't solo artist material but I could def see her as the lead singer of a band. Plus I hate seeing Demi sing with her, because it seems like she over sings and tries to make it obvious that she's the singer. Like yo. Stop. I used to be a Demi fan and I kind of still am but she's losing me, I'm starting to not really like her and really starting to like Selena. Demi just seems fake to me.
