They were working on the songs MONTHS before. Like as soon as one album is done they start on the next. What ever comes to mind. Nick and Miley started talking way before everyone knew about it. They record an album up to three months before it is released. Two months before the release, the record is on lock down. Pretty much in that time it's like checks and all and then the month before it's sent out to print.
