There was such a pronounced Purple vibe Thursday night at the sold-out State Theatre in Minneapolis for the side project of the youngest Jonas brother that it wouldn’t have been surprising if Nick, 17, had broken into a PG version of Prince’s “Darling Nikki.”
The sound of Nick’s new group was decidedly Prince-like at times, the lights were heavy on the color purple, and the usually introverted Nick eventually found his inner rock star and practically channeled the Purple One on a couple of numbers, complete with falsetto.
Nick knew he was in Minneapolis, home of all four members of his Administration, three of whom used to play in Prince’s New Power Generation. The fourth guy was Minneapolis-bred bassist John Fields, whose uncle (Steven Greenberg), as Nick explained to the crowd, wrote “Funkytown” (the last song broadcast before Nick took the stage).
“This is a funky town,” Nick declared shortly after he had played “Last Time Around,” the turning point in the 95-minute show.
Before that, Nick had played proficiently but without any commitment, conviction or spark. His band — all the members are old enough to be his dad and have played with one another for years — was terrific. Then suddenly, Nick cut loose, climbing atop an upright piano and jumping off with a flying leap, shouting “wow” and then doing some spins. He carried on like a rock star instead of a studio geek making his music sound just right.
The memories of earlier numbers from his unfamiliar, unreleased solo album, “Who I Am,” due on Feb. 2 — they alternately suggested John Mayer and Stevie Wonder without the passion — disappeared. Nick, who has traditionally been kind of shy between songs, suddenly turned into a talkative teen, yammering on about the Jonas Brothers performing at Lumberjack Days in Stillwater a few years ago (”I couldn’t grow a beard. I still can’t”), him writing songs about UFOs and the coolness of guitarist Sonny Thompson’s Afro.
For the rest of the set, Nick was on fire, rocking out Hendrix-style on “Conspiracy Theory,” pumping up the crowd on “Stronger” and showing his true colors on “Stay,” featuring guest guitarist John Taylor from the Jonas Brothers band. This new number was a demonstrative gospelly soul pleader during which Nick whipped off his leather jacket, knocked over the microphone stand and got down on his knees to beg more fervently. It was a perfectly Princely performance. The Jonas Brothers fans responded like they were in a “Let’s Go Crazy” mode.

A man is in custody this morning for the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man who he claims was forcing his way into his home early this morning, Wayne police said.
Andrew Turner, a Wayne resident, was shot multiple times at a house in the 4000 block of Niagara in Wayne but he did not live there, police said. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police received a call to the house at 1:25 a.m. about Turner having been shot. The man who police say shot Turner remains in custody until the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determines if the shooting was homicide or self defense, police said
Wayne Police Lt. Jason Wright said there were many unanswered questions and that two people were allegedly at the home at the time of the shooting are being tracked down this afternoon for interviews. Police are still trying to determine how Turner and the man who shot him knew each other. It could be from seeing each other in the neighborhood, he said.
“I don’t believe they were acquaintances or close friends,” Wright said.
Turner had several contacts with Wayne police through the years but he couldn’t recall specifics, he said.
It’s likely that Wayne police will be giving the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office perhaps on Wednesday, Wright said. Police are waiting for the autopsy results from the Wayne County

Thanks. I know this might be stupid, but another reason I am sad is because he was like the first crush I had growing up, I knew him in middle school. Like nothing ever happened between us, but I liked him a lot and like I am good friends with his best friend, and his best friend isn't really giving me any details and he's grieving really bad and he said hes been popping xanax and stuff which I'm also worried about.

Nick channels the Purple One
Was it the setting or just the sincerest form of flattery? Nick Jonas’ concert was rich in Prince vibes and showed off his solo musical powers.
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here for a thing called Nick Jonas & the Administration.
There was such a pronounced Purple vibe Thursday night at the sold-out State Theatre in Minneapolis for the side project of the youngest Jonas brother that it wouldn’t have been surprising if Nick, 17, had broken into a PG version of Prince’s “Darling Nikki.”
The sound of Nick’s new group was decidedly Prince-like at times, the lights were heavy on the color purple, and the usually introverted Nick eventually found his inner rock star and practically channeled the Purple One on a couple of numbers, complete with falsetto.
Nick knew he was in Minneapolis, home of all four members of his Administration, three of whom used to play in Prince’s New Power Generation. The fourth guy was Minneapolis-bred bassist John Fields, whose uncle (Steven Greenberg), as Nick explained to the crowd, wrote “Funkytown” (the last song broadcast before Nick took the stage).
“This is a funky town,” Nick declared shortly after he had played “Last Time Around,” the turning point in the 95-minute show.
Before that, Nick had played proficiently but without any commitment, conviction or spark. His band — all the members are old enough to be his dad and have played with one another for years — was terrific. Then suddenly, Nick cut loose, climbing atop an upright piano and jumping off with a flying leap, shouting “wow” and then doing some spins. He carried on like a rock star instead of a studio geek making his music sound just right.
The memories of earlier numbers from his unfamiliar, unreleased solo album, “Who I Am,” due on Feb. 2 — they alternately suggested John Mayer and Stevie Wonder without the passion — disappeared. Nick, who has traditionally been kind of shy between songs, suddenly turned into a talkative teen, yammering on about the Jonas Brothers performing at Lumberjack Days in Stillwater a few years ago (”I couldn’t grow a beard. I still can’t”), him writing songs about UFOs and the coolness of guitarist Sonny Thompson’s Afro.
For the rest of the set, Nick was on fire, rocking out Hendrix-style on “Conspiracy Theory,” pumping up the crowd on “Stronger” and showing his true colors on “Stay,” featuring guest guitarist John Taylor from the Jonas Brothers band. This new number was a demonstrative gospelly soul pleader during which Nick whipped off his leather jacket, knocked over the microphone stand and got down on his knees to beg more fervently. It was a perfectly Princely performance. The Jonas Brothers fans responded like they were in a “Let’s Go Crazy” mode.

A man is in custody this morning for the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man who he claims was forcing his way into his home early this morning, Wayne police said.
Andrew Turner, a Wayne resident, was shot multiple times at a house in the 4000 block of Niagara in Wayne but he did not live there, police said. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police received a call to the house at 1:25 a.m. about Turner having been shot. The man who police say shot Turner remains in custody until the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determines if the shooting was homicide or self defense, police said
Wayne Police Lt. Jason Wright said there were many unanswered questions and that two people were allegedly at the home at the time of the shooting are being tracked down this afternoon for interviews. Police are still trying to determine how Turner and the man who shot him knew each other. It could be from seeing each other in the neighborhood, he said.
“I don’t believe they were acquaintances or close friends,” Wright said.
Turner had several contacts with Wayne police through the years but he couldn’t recall specifics, he said.
It’s likely that Wayne police will be giving the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office perhaps on Wednesday, Wright said. Police are waiting for the autopsy results from the Wayne County

Actually Nick has the most perfect skin. People keep making a big deal out of chest hair and facial hair but why? Notice that movie stars and models shave it all off. Smooth skin sells much more.
