Eight teenagers were hospitalized during a fan girl stampede at Justin Bieber‘s concert in Australia on Monday. Fans camped overnight at Sydney Harbour and by Monday morning thousands were packed into the Circular Quay area. The frenzied crowd began to surge, prompting police to cancel the event after ‘more than 100 teens’ became ‘distressed’, according to officials.
One girl fractured her kneecap, while others were hospitalized with breathing and dehydration problems. Officials in New Zealand have stepped up security ahead of his visit. Justin will perform a free concert at the Strathallan School in Papakura.
The news comes after officials at another school in the country denied rumors Bieber is planning to perform a secret show there this week. Rumors of a Bieber concert spread at Diocesan School for Girls in Epsom, but Principal Heather McRae has made a statement to insist the story is not true.
New Zealand fan Melanie S., 15, told STUFF that she snuck out to see Justin: ‘I’ve never been this excited in my entire life.’ After Bieber left the airport, Tory S. said, ‘Oh my God, he was so amazing and beautiful. I can’t believe I saw him.’
