Nick Jonas, ‘Fan Girls Will Be Respectful’

Nick Jonas spoke to ITN about Les Miserables: ‘It’s a lot different. It’s not just the stage elements but the style of singing. There’s pop music and then there’s theatrical style music and I’m just getting used to that mind set. And trying to re-learn how to sing like that has been interesting and a lot of fun as well.’

Nick isn’t worried that the audience will be filled with screaming girls: ‘I believe they’ll be respectful and they’ll know the code of conduct at the theatre. Even if they do scream, it will just add to the excitement of the night.’

I thought the fans were very respectful during the show. There was no shouting or screaming in between scenes. And although the applause for Nick was by far the loudest, the fans clapped for everyone. The whole cast received a standing ovation.

What about the sewer scenes when Marius is injured? How did Nick handle that? That scene is also emotional. It’s when Jean ValJean carries the unconscious and dying Marius through the sewers of Paris to get him back to his love, Cosette.

    How did the trapdoor go?

  • Anonymous

Was the guy who played ValJean able to carry him? I’ve seen it several ways…it always is more emotional when ValJean stumbles throug the sewer with Marius. With Marius’s arms dangling lifelessly as he begs Javert to let them pass so he can save his life.

God, I love Les Miserables! It is really the best theatrical performance ever.

Thenardier tries to convince Marius that ValJean is a theif, that he saw him stealing from a corpse. Only the ring that Thenardier produces is Marius’s ring…and Marius realizes that Thenardier is really the theif. He then throws him out of his wedding. Ha Ha…funny stuff.

Sometimes the fans can be way too forward, grabbing them etc. I mean, really, they are not your BFF…they don’t know you so give them a little personal space.

Jean ValJean steals food because he is hungry and he is arrested and sent to prison. He escapes but it pursued by Javert.

ValJean takes on a new persona and becomes a rich man, he meets Fantine. Fantine’s dying wish is for ValJean to find her daughter Cosette and keep her safe.

ValJean finds Cosette in a filthy bar being treated horribly. He rescues her.

Fast forward….Marius meets Cosette and falls in love. Marius joins his friends to fight in the Revolution at the barricade.

ValJean goes to find Marius at the barricade and vows to bring him home safely to Cosette. Marius fights without abandon after the death of Gavroche. He is injured, seriously, at the barricade. All his friends are killed.

ValJean rescues an unconscious Marius and carries his body through the sewers to Cosette all the while being pursued by Javert. Javert catches them in the sewer but after ValJean begs for Marius’s life…Javert lets him go.

Javert touched by Valjean’s compassion, commits suicide.

Marius recovers with the help of Cosette. They are married. ValJean admits to Marius that he is the convict ValJean.

    ValJean dies.

There is lots of death and misery in the play. Hence…Les Miserables

That’s it in a nutshell but I cut out a ton of stuff. You can catch most of the play (London version) on YouTube.

  • Anonymous

I was skeptical about Nick being in Les Miserables, but after seeing him own the stage I can definately see why they picked him for the role. It was almost as if the role was made for him. He really was super good. I was blown away.

  • Anonymous

Nick Jonas is perfect for this role. He plays Marius with grace and it is believable. Can’t wait to see the DVD of the 25th Anniversary concert.

I wonder if they can get him to perform on the Tony’s next year with the 25th Anni cast. That would be awesome.

I’m also holding out hope that he will play Marius in the film version.

True. But if you scream during a performance in the West End, you’d get kicked out. It’s respect for all of the cast and the rest of the audience.

He really is amazing in the performance. I’ve seen the Broadway version several years back…not sure if it was when Nick was in it because back then I wasn’t a JB fan.

Nick did a GREAT job as Marius. He was actually VERY VERY good. His voice is beautiful and what blew me away was his acting chops. He totally emerses himself in the role. He cries, he shows anger. The barricade scene…I was on the edge of my seat. It’s so emotional. I bet he’s exhausted just staying in character, it’s so intense.

    Great job Nick!

Nick’s not as quiet on stage. The recordings so far aren’t great quality. His voice is so controlled and beautiful. Actually, he has one of the best voices out of them all.

    Holy crap he was PHENOMENAL!

He did not sound like himself at all. the show was amazing, all of the performerrs were amazing and i would see it again even if he wasnt in it.

    and nobody screamed :D

    ————————-

Thank God nobody screamed, i’m going on Monday and if anyone screams i’m gonna get pissed off haha,

I’m upset that i’m right at the back of the middle upper section though, all stall tickets had sold out O.o

Yeah when Gavroche dies, it is one of the most heart breaking scenes. There is actually audio of Nick singing it on YouTube somewhere.
