It’s amazing how someone can stay stop the bullying when most people don’t even see their behavior as bullying. I have been bullied all my life even in chatrooms I get cyberbullied. It has been so bad that I no longer say anything but keep my opinions to my self. If I sand up for myself I get put down and forced to apologise for offending the person. But they don’t say I am sorry for attacking me. The problem is that it will never end as long as one side sees their behavior as being normal. A bully is going to be a bully and if you call them that they aren’t going to admit that they aren’t bullying. It’s sad to say but it will never end. Bullying has been around since the begining of man. I understand why Joe said this but his words are going to fall on deaf ears.

For the people who don’t know this: In the last couple of weeks a lot of teenagers committed suicide. Because they were bullied (most of the time because they were gay). A lot of celebrities made video’s like this. So this is not Joe trying to be Demi or anything like that. I think he really cares about bullying. You can see it if you look at his body language.

And please don’t bully here. That would be really stupid. To bully in a comment board where an awesome guy like Joe talks about how bad it is to do something like that.

I agree that people shouldn’t bully. However, I will say this. It seems like lately whenever someone says something someone else doesn’t like it is “bullying”. I think that’s bullshit.

I don’t know what prompted Joe to make this video, nor do I care. I hope he really cares about this topic and isn’t just making a veiled comment about the fact the he and Ashley are getting a lot negative press lately. But either way, it seems to me that anyone who states an unpopular opinion is getting labeled a “bully” and I think that’s unfair.

Let’s keep real bullying in prospective, like the guy at Rutgers, Tyler Clementi, that killed himself because his roommate put a live video online of him having sex. That’s real bullying. Things like people saying “Ashley is ugly” (which I don’t believe) or “Joe is a player” aren’t bullying, they are people stating an unpopular opinion. There is a difference.

  • Anonymous

I see Joe as very genuine, a bit flawed, and always in the spotlight when he does anything. The high number of recent teen suicides may mean something to him and he decided to speak up. It is ironic that the issue with his gf has shown just how angry and hateful so many kids are.

Joe is lucky he has a good family and friends around him. Yes, he’s rich and “living the dream” but the assault on his character over and over again by people who think they know his live must be kind of hard.
He’s never said an unkind word about Demi or tried to justify what happened in the relationship.

You know what? That’s not even close to the point. Apparently you aren’t mature enough to simply listen to the words he was saying and not focus on his looks. So the message was lost on you, which is a shame becuase I for one appreciate him taking the time to speak out about this.

There are people all over the world who don’t feel comfortable in their own skin and other people making fun of them for it, making them feel like they are different or hated for this to the point where they are killing themselves. A little more serious than someone not having a razor, don’tcha think?

  • EvaSnow

@perezhilton Here’s my #ItGetsBetter video http://bit.ly/a1mvUY. Thanks for raising awareness to the issue.

Do we need more prove that Joe did this for the “It Gets Better” campaign? And not because his GF Ashley gets “bullied”. Or because he wants to look like his ex-GF Demi. Seriously people…. Stop obsessing about Jemi/Jashley..

Once again, crazy Nick stan, you show your ignorance. Get off this site once in awhile & read a newspaper or turn on the news: young kids are KILLING themselves because of the extreme bullying they have been subjected to in school. I believe there have been 8 suicides in September alone. It’s getting sad & ridiculous that kids can’t be who they are w/out fear of being bullied. And THAT’S why Joe made this video.

I hear you friend. But if it can make ONE PERSON change their behavior from being a bully, or help ONE PERSON who is bullied to realize they have things they love about life despite the bad they face, then this PSA by Joe is well well worth his time to do and our time to listen to.

Things like people saying “Ashley is ugly” (which I don’t believe) or “Joe is a player” aren’t bullying, they are people stating an unpopular opinion. There is a difference.

    *****

Joe follows the news like we do and yes, I’m certain the tragedy at Rutgers as well as the younger boy who killed himself because he was being bullied about being gay, and the other victims in the news recently are why Joe did this. His recent tweet about suicide clearly cleary shows he is thinking and concerned about this.

But don’t kid yourself as you are clearly doing. Anyone who calls Joe names, sends him twitter messages calling him or Ashley names is cyber-bullying. No one has the right to launch a mass campaign of hate against someone

I’m not saying Joe cares — I believe his reason for doing this was the recent news events and his concern for those people and not want some stupid hate-filled creeps have to say about him. But it doesn’t make any of these people who do it any less bullies. Timelines are not for harassment. Someone who states an opinion once and leaves it at that, is not who I’m talking about but the constant abuse is ‘abuse’ ‘bullying’ hate — and rather pathetic. Those people are doing ‘real’ bullying too whether it’s painted pretty. Jeeezzz, I can just hear those people criticizing those poor gay kids that it was their ‘opinion.’ Oh, that’s the famous reason kids keep bullying each other–especially online.

  • Danger-ous

Why couldn’t Joe have PARTICULARIZED the subject and talked about the horrible treatment of gays instead of just bullying in general? Bullying as a whole gets plenty of attention, but what about the mistreatment of homosexuals??
    ———
While I agree with you that this is the more pertinent topic, I’m sure he was generalizing becuase there are still people who are bullied and not becuase of sexual preference. There are still kids who are called stupid or made fun of becuase of their size or clothing, whatever.

I don’t think he wanted to segregate that one type of bullying takes presidence over another, however heavy it may weigh on your heart.

  • Sheri

The funny thing is, Joe has not spoken out when any of his girlfriends has gotten hate, or he himself has gotten hate-except that blog about the Jaylor break out which was very direct. I doubt he and Ashley care about the twitter hate, it’s not like both have never dealt with it right now. And even then, his words are directed to being nice to others in school and seeing the positive in life, and about how they were “chosen to be put on Earth” which makes it definitely sound like he’s referring to the suicides, even without the “#itgetsbetter” hash tag.

And even so, his personal life does not matter. What he is saying matters, and he is correct. Let’s stop hating each other, because, these days I’m picking up a lot of hate on other kids, other people, for politicians, and for celebrities.

It’s okay to have a different opinion, or an unpopular one. But it’s not okay to call people names, or bashing them. That’s just a waste of time.

And so is judging people, whether it be people you know personally, or online, or through the media.

It’s all useless, in the end. It drags absolutely everybody down.

So before you start questioning hidden motives-consider what is being said. And I would say this for anyone-anyone at all, even my worst enemy :)

  • Im.a.vain.bitch

    =D

I think it’s great that he made this, but it would have been nice if he had addressed the recent suicides happening by gay teenagers. If he brought that up, it might reach a person who wouldn’t have heard about it otherwise. Just my thoughts.

I disagree. He did it as part of the recent campaign and while some people’s approach is to state the recent news, some are more comfortable and make a better pitch with the ‘soft sell.’

Joe has a nice quiet way of saying it, without sounding like he’s lecturing about specific events in the news. Again, each messenger to their own way. Some who hear a message will pay more attentin to the ‘hard sell’ and others to the ‘soft sell.’ We need both types of messages.

  • Anonymous

Very, very well done Joe. He has this wonderful way of talking directly to each of us.

    THANK YOU JOE!
There are millions of people out there being bullied and it doesn’t matter if he all of a sudden cares about it, maybe it just took him some time to actually put it out there.
There are many videos out there saying “It Get’s Better” like there a video of Joel Madden, he’s talking about bullying and gays.. here’s the link … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqENROhtbsE
There are more than three of four celebrities that care like Joel Madden!
Back to Joe, like I said before it doesn’t matter if he JUST started caring, it just matters that he now cares about people who are being bullied.

Honestly, guys.. this video is about standing up to bullying. Why the fuck are we talking about loving demi and that Joe’s a copycat.
Now what? because Oprah went to Africa, suddenly, the rest of the world isn’t allowed to help out because it would be like copying Oprah?! Get over yourselves, grow up and understand that this video is about a REAL subject… Not, “Joe’s stupid, he’s just trying to get back at Demi.”
What kind of logic is in that? He’s just trying to reach out to more people about bullying.. that’s ALL.

Why couldn’t Joe have PARTICULARIZED the subject and talked about the horrible treatment of gays instead of just bullying in general? Bullying as a whole gets plenty of attention, but what about the mistreatment of homosexuals??

As a HUGE jonas fan, I just want to say that I commend Joe for making the video, I just wished he had mentioned something about gays and the 5 teenage suicides that have happened in the past month. Maybe he didn’t mention it because the JBs have been called “fags” and “homos” and since it’s not true, he didn’t want to “add fuel to the fire”?? Just a thought.

I feel the same. It’s so simple for some people on here and the internet in general to make such harsh statements not having to see the reaction of the people receiving them. It almost takes away the affect of their words to the person bullying. It’s sad that I still see people using words like “retard” and “faggot” uses as slang and adjectives. Or the fact that people call something “gay” if they don’t like it.

I think the fault lies in the parents as well for not educating their children that these words hurt and affect people so much more than you know. And for continuing the vicious cycle of name calling and ignorance that we see everyday.
    ——
Yes. A lot of these parents can be to blame, but also at a point the decisions and actions towards other people start to come from the person itself, but I do agree with you on the parents thing.

Joe had to ditch the purity ring whether it is for personal or professional reasons. If his new music is more mature, he could not say “hot, body or do it” in a song while waving an arm around with the ring. No matter how/when he stopped publically wearning it, his younger, more consevative fans were going to have a problem with it.

The guy doesn’t like Joe, but he did admit that Joe is very “live and let live” towards people of any race/faith/orientation. His brothers and parents…not so much.

Omg you don’t know Joe or his family! Seriously stop with the crap already!

Joe is 21…He doesnt need Demi/Jemi/Jonas fans telling him who he should or shouldnt date. Im sorry but everyone needs to back away and let him live his own life.
    ——-
Good advice however that has absolutely nothing to do with what anyone is talking about right now. Joe’s not speaking about his personal relationships or who he’s dating.

Some people were talking about Demi and Ashley…

Funny how Joe gets praised for speaking out agaisn’t bullying by his fans, but when Demi speaks out agaisn’t it, she gets hated on for it. #doublestandards

Oh and don’t reply to this comment, this post is about Joe, not Demi, just wanted to throw that out there.

Joe did this for the It Gets Better campaign. Not because he gets bullied by fans. Seriously, how do people come up with this? He even said it in his tweets..

  • ClaireMichelle

The hashtag #itgetsbetter leads me to believe this was intended for the recent suicides because Perez has twittered to tons of celebrities asking them to making #ItGetsBetter videos and post them. I doubt this has anything to do with his relationships with Ashley or Demi. And even if it does, who cares? The underlying message of the issue of bullying is still there.

Joe spoke up about it becuase it’s becoming an epidemic and it’s part of a campaign. Demi is against bullying becuase she was called a whore when she was younger. Somehow it’s more heartfelt coming from him.

Joe spoke about it when it’s on the news, Demi speaks out agaisn’t it, even if it’s not in the news. It feels more heartfelt coming from her and you don’t know why or how she was bullied.

You don’t know the full story of why Demi left. Stop making everything a chance to take a stab at Demi. They are both supporting a good cause. leave it at that.

  • Danger-ous

I didn’t start it nor am I looking for a reason to take a stab at her. I’m just as fine not discussing her at all, but ofcourse someone had to bring up that it’s a double standard so I spoke on it.

Joe is dating Ashley Greene from Twilight? For reals, like is it confirmed?

  • Anonymous

It does seem really genuine. You can tell it is not scripted… it’s Joe slightly tripping over his words, not majorly articulate, but very heartfelt and real. Classic Joe. Good message.

  • Danger-ous

I mean, Joe’s not exactly a vernacular genius, but I always appreciate his sentiment so much more, like you said.

What if that person sitting alone in the cafeteria or that person with not that many friends is a bitch? or an asshole?

Someone told me a very long time ago that you never know what’s going on in that person’s life to make them the way they are.

  • EvaSnow

I think this is real. Joe really means what he sais on this video. You can see it if you look at his body language and the way how he speaks. Joe deserves a freaking oscar if this video is fake.

Does Joe support gays/gay marriage? He’s been very into the it gets better thing lately, makes me think he does :D

I wouldnt be surprised if he does support it. He seems to have liberal views. Im not sure though…

    I agree.

    ———————-
“You don’t know what prompted Joe to make this video & you don’t care”????

Once again, crazy Nick stan, you show your ignorance. Get off this site once in awhile & read a newspaper or turn on the news: young kids are KILLING themselves because of the extreme bullying they have been subjected to in school. I believe there have been 8 suicides in September alone. It’s getting sad & ridiculous that kids can’t be who they are w/out fear of being bullied. And THAT’S why Joe made this video.
    __________
    THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Thank you Joe for supporting what is a growing sense of entitlement that people have in making others feel lousy. Having a difference of opinion is not being a bully, but threatening, tearing others down, embarrassing people and encouraging others to do so is.

  • Anonymous

hahaha, kind of reminds me of demi, but anyone can be involve in stopping bullying. My cousins are going through bullying at the moment and this is a great way to help, to show that other people care about them. It should stop.

Wow, I REALLY feel sorry for this generation and ones behind it.

Some of these comments prove that this generation has gone down hill and it just keeps getting worse and worse. The bottom line is, for whatever reason he did it (I think it was genuine) EVERYBODY needs to wake up and STOP with the hate.

Whatever the situation is with joe and his girlfriends past, present, and future, and people coming on here and going back and forth with people they don’t even know is ridiculous. People can say what they want and no one can stop them or change their mind. Years from know you’ll all look back and smack yourselves in the head for fighting with people you don’t even know.

I come on here and there is always that ONE person who will NEVER let everyone else have any peace. It’s sad really. I really wish people would get it through their minds that we don’t have to hate each other; all we have to do is try and understand.

I’m not Joe and neither are you. Which is why I said I don’t know why he made the video. I think it has a good message, but I also think people need to calm the fuck down (such as yourself) with labeling everyone that says something unpopular as a bully. I mean damn, someone above just jumped on someone for saying Joe needs to shave. WTF??

Obviously, there are serious cases of bullying like the case of Tyler Clementi, AS I STATED IN MY ORIGINAL POST, but damn people need to get a reality check and realize that not eveyone needs to agree with each other and have the same opinion when it comes to ridiculous things like if Joe and Ashely shoud be together.
    ————————
Did a call you a bully? No. I don’t give two shits what your opinion is – you’re entitled to it. I take more offense to the fact that you are so narrow-minded to pass ANY judgement on this video without even really knowing WHY he made it – and saying “nor did you care.” You are completely ignorant. He, along w/others, are spreading the message “#ItGetsBetter” to try to convince kids that suicide is not the answer. If you weren’t blinded by your Joe hate, you would see that he tweeted that and THAT is the reason the video is made. It has nothing to do w/Jashley hate. JFC – like they give two shits what people like you think of them anyway.
