i come from germany and here the parents react in a different way .. it always appears that the american parents care more that the role model of their children doesn't do bad things instead of teaching their children what's wrong and what's right. that's the way german parents do it.

Life and society was different when our parents where teenagers, smoking, recreational drug use, binge drinking, partying and sex were socially acceptable things for kids to do.
Like in the 80s, it was the norm for teenagers to smoke and have sex.. it's because of how back then suburbia was just developing and before that teenagers supported their families financially and were independent (like in 1900 till 1940/1950).
It's not double standards, it's just how society was back then. Ever since the dominance of suburbia and fucked up censorship, society began viewing this kind of behaviour as bad and now it's not acceptable.
