Simon Cowell told Access Hollywood: ‘I love [Rebecca], the fact she’s gotten so much publicity. People are so upset about the song and I think it’s hysterical. I want to meet her. Anyone who can create this much controversy within a week, I want to meet. I love people like that.’
Rebecca, an eighth-grader from Anaheim Hills, CA, debuted ‘Friday’ on YouTube after her parents paid $2,000 to Ark Music Factory record label for the pre-written song and the production of the accompanying video.
It has now received 23 million + views. One commentor wrote: ‘cut herself, get an eating disorder and die.‘ ‘Friday’ is currently at #29 on iTunes outperforming songs by Kanye West, the cast of ‘Glee’ and her idol/ crush Justin Bieber.
