Director Gary Ross on role choices of Liam Hemsworth & Josh Hutcherson in The Hunger Games: 'When I read the book, I thought Peeta would be hardest role to cast, and I feel so lucky that we found someone who embodies every aspect of such a complex character. I can't wait to work with Josh.'
Author Suzanne Collins: 'I was fortunate enough to be in room with Gary Ross when Josh came in to audition. Three lines into the read I knew he wouldd be fantastic. Josh totally captured Peeta's temperament, his sense of humor and his facility for language. I'm thrilled to have him aboard.'
Producer Nina Jacobson: 'Gale is a young man who uses words very sparingly, so the onus was on the actor we cast to capture him by showing, not telling. This was accomplished so beautifully in Suzanne's writing Liam was able to translate it so naturally to the screen. At the same time Gale's journey across the three books transforms him, and Liam's performance left no doubt that he would take us there.' Are you upset about the role choices?

I always imagined the Hunger Games' characters younger looking :/ They are supposed to be 16, and they chose 18+ actors.

I'd kind of prefer if they were switched, just for looks. I think Josh is gonna look really young next to Jennifer Lawrence, even though Peeta is described as having somewhat of a baby-face. Liam never came to mind when I read the books; i saw more of Luke Pasqualino or Ben Barnes. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Josh is an amazing actor. Remember him in Bridge to Terabithia? He made me cryy. So I think they did a really good job picking him.
But with Liam as Gale... I havent seen Liam in any movies. I may have to rent the last song to judge.

josh is a good pick for peeta but liam is terrible for gale; and if the author is happy with josh portraying peeta then it's probably going to be good choice. besides all movies that are based on books always pale in comparison, so the best that they can hope for is for it to be a good movie on it's own.

I think Josh will make a good Peeta. I was worried when I first heard, but he's got the charm for it. Peeta is all about charm, and he's really witty. The actor that plays him has to be able to pull that off, and I think Josh will do an excellent job. Liam on the other hand.. sorry Team Gale.
