David Archuleta, 'Serving Mormon Mission'

David Archuleta announced in Salt Lake City on Monday night that he will put his music career on hold in order to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: 'It's not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because I no longer want to do music anymore,

..but it's because it's the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life. It's the feeling that has allowed me to have the opportunities I've had, the challenges that I've overcome and the blessings, too.

And I've learned to trust that feeling, and I've learned that I need to answer when it calls. That's the reason why I know I need to do this in my life.' He is scheduled to begin during the first half of 2012.

Have any of YOU been on a Mormon mission?

Didn't know he was a Mormon.
That'd be weird to have him come to your house on his mission with his companion, I'm not a fan, but I'd still freak out haha.

WTF is he crying about? That he's realizing his next two years will be wasted on nothing?

this is selfish of him

If David were selfish, he would spend the next two years touring Asia where he had a very successful stadium tour this past summer and where his songs top the charts and are used on TV shows. That would get him lots of money and help further build his popularity. He could do the same in Latin America. You may disagree with the wisdom of the decision but no way it is selfish. David has always done lots of charity work including a visit to a leper colony in India last year to wash the feet of residents. Most people don't know about this because unlike when certain teen stars do charity work, David does not have the media there to take HD photos and send them to media outlets to let everyone know how great he is.
