If A One Direction Member Were Gay?

If One Direction member came out as gay would YOU support them? Huffington Post asked gay former NYSYNC member Lance Bass: ‘I actually think they would. The younger generation is way smarter than we were. They’re way more perceptive, and they just don’t care. ..Back then there was no way in hell I would come out.’

In 2006, four years after *NSYNC announced its plans to go on hiatus, he finally came out publicly, appearing on the cover of People Magazine with the headline ‘I’M GAY.’ If 1D’s Harry or Zayn or Louis or Niall or Liam (did I forget any?) were actually to come out, would they be welcomed with open arms, both by their fans and the industry they’ve revitalized?

Just like *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys before them, the group has become a brand and an empire, and the five boys who make up the group most likely have very little free will when it comes to making decisions about their image. For example, consider the song ‘Only Girl in the World,’ with the lyrics ‘I’m gonna make you feel like you’re the only girl in the world,

..like you’re the only one that I’ll ever love.’ Imagine being the gay one in the group singing those words, thinking about all the hearts you’ll break when you tell them you don’t even love any girls? One Direction is, by definition, a young-female-targeted, heterocentric phenomenon, and there’s no getting away from it. A recent headline read, ‘Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson ‘Gay Affair’ Tearing One Direction Apart.’ In an interview with MTV News, Tomlinson said, ‘This is a subject that was funny at first but now is actually hard to deal with.’

The One Direction members’ sexuality matters a lot to their fanbase. Not only have their lyrics promised teenage girls that they’re the only girl in the world, but 1D as a business entity has made a crapload of money simply for the fact that they’re heartthrobs, so there’s a lot on the line for the members personally, as well as for the record-label behemoth that backs them.

NOTE: The New Yorker said that 1D sounds like girls!

What if all of them were gay? LOL

“Imagine being the gay one in the group singing those words, thinking about all the hearts you’ll break when you tell them you don’t even love any girls?”

OCEANUP, ARE YOU SERIOUS? Just because a boy is gay it doesn’t mean he can’t love a girl. I’m 19 and I’m gay and some of the people I love the most are girls and they are my best friends. I love them deeply from my heart and I sing romantic songs to them. So NO, it’s not wrong a gay guy to sing songs for a girl telling her he loves and wants to be with her, because he actually might want to be with her (next to her, supporting her, loving her) like I do. And I bet a lot of gay/bi guys agree with me.

Honestly, a lot of Christian people will just want to abandon them if one of them comes out. It’s pointless, and it’s painfully true that they have little free will with their image. They are owned by the industry, and it’s a price they have to pay to make huge amounts of money. They need the fans, but at the same time, they want to draw a line for them.

The entire celebrity thing just needs to die. It’s a good cure for boredom, but, to all of the obsessive fanatics… It can be depressing. And I just don’t like the idea of relying on something, but treating it like garbage. Fuck that. Seriously.

You can either devote yourself to the public, or just fuck off. There’s no in between. Thinking like that is cheating the system. It’s like being in an abusive relationship. And that’s what obsession and worship often lead to.

I an Christian, and I’ll have you know that a lot of younger christians are far more accepting of these things than people think. I would, without a single doubt, support them! Just like I support my gay friends.

i would totally support them, but i bet some of their younger fans wouldn’t be allowed to listen to them, specially in the US that sometimes they are just too conservative (or at least that’s what I’ve heard).

    it shouldnt matter.

Niall and Louis are the most likely to be gay.

Niall has been single throughout his entire time in One Direction. Maybe he’s not interested in any of the girls that walk by him, and he’s not ready to come out. It would also not be a good idea since so many girls are swooning over him and it could break their hearts that they are never going to be Niall’s princess. He could just be waiting for his prince.

Louis on the other hand, is sassy, flamboyant, and fashionable. He is also one half of the Larry Stylinson ship. But it’d be more likely if Louis were bisexual than gay, since he’s had a couple of long-term girlfriends.

I think all of them are into women anyway. But they’ll always have a tight bromance with each other, and aren’t afraid to showcase actions and words that are considered as “gay”.

It shouldn’t matter because I wouldn’t be exactly surprised.

I prob wouldnt care but they are not and Harry is not in a relationship with nick grimshaw and I hope none of them will become gay that would be awkward

I actually think they will support them.

  • Gearsarealwaysturning

I think their fanbase would support them. Our generation is way more open about this. Please let Larry be, god. Please let it be.

    i love you. haha

  • Oh SNAP

Who gives a flack if someone in the band is gay? Most of us Directioners think they’re homo anyway so if one of them comes out, it wouldn’t make a difference.

I think Harry’s in a relationship with Nick Grimshaw though, just saying.

I’m almost positive that they would still support them, I mean don’t you see how crazy they get when they see Larry and Ziall (plus those other bromance names) together? It’s obvious that they would still support them.

  • Jinxx.

god forbid it be Harry or Louis, otherwise 1D fans will get 100x more annoying when it comes to ‘Larry Stylinson’ lol.

that being said, yes, I’d support them.

  • SubwayToVenus
