One Direction have won the lawsuit to keep using their name with American band One Direction. The situation has now been settled amicably: ‘All of the parties involved are pleased with the resolution and wish each other success.’ The US rock band, who have been together since 2009, had previously tried to reach a settlement with the band but eventually filed a lawsuit when they were unable to ‘negotiate a reasonable compromise.’
The band were claiming over 600k in damages as well as a share of the British band’s profits, as well as hoping to get them to stop using the name. They had also contacted representatives for the British group a year earlier, to inform them of their trademark registration on the name. It’s unclear exactly how much the eventual settlement was.
