Teen Beach Musical Disney Channel Film

Teen Beach Musical Disney Channel Film

Disney Channel is filming a new song-and-dance extravaganza Teen Beach Musical which takes on the classic beach musicals of the 1960s, which will premiere in 2013, reports TV Guide. Teen Beach Musical stars Australian actress Maia Mitchell (Mortified, which aired on Disney Channel Australia) as a surfer girl who is forced by her parents to depart for boarding school and leave her boyfriend Brady (Ross Lynch, from Disney Channel's Austin & Ally) behind.

But she and Brady wind up being transported into his favorite classic 1960s surf movie musical, where they have to figure out how to fit in. As everyone around them starts singing and dancing, and a fight between bikers and surfers break out, the duo attempts to get out of the movie and back to present day.

Teen Beach Musical also stars Garrett Clayton (Shake It Up), Grace Phipps (The Nine Lives of Chloe King), John DeLuca (Wizards of Waverly Place), Chrissie Fit (General Hospital), Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie) and Steve Valentine (I'm In The Band). Production has already started in Puerto Rico. The movie will feature ten new songs, written in a surf rock, Motown R&B, rockabilly and comedic pop style. Vince Marcello and Mark Landry (Zombie Prom) and Robert Horn (Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure) wrote the movie.

It's been years since the last High School Musical.

What I would say is "Finally, another musical!"

Give it a chance, my god. Nostalgia is different than quality. Yeah and the name is stupid, I agree, to an extent, but High School Musical isn't any better. This kid has so much potential, and is given so many opportunities after really being in Hollywood a year. His show is a hit and his band is releasing an album this year. Watch him become the next Zac Efron. Or even the next Aaron Carter (minus the drugs)

Btw, I love the entire premise of the movie. Classic Disney beach movies meet Back to the Future. Love 60's music Smile

Glad Disney is finally cleaning up with this movie. Camp Rock 1 was absolutely horrible (love Demi tho), Camp Rock 2 was only slightly better.

Has it really been that long since Camp Rock 2 came out?

This was obviously inspired by the movie Grease.

I wish Disney would just get over it. HSM is over and they've tried to imitate its success with other films and it just hasn't worked. Just give it up already.

You never know this could work out , but honestly disney is hoping from how popular , HSM & CR was but not gonna happen . But if its kinda like Starstruck , ill love it ( :

Disney looking for the next big hit! They haven't had a huge hit since 'High School Musical' this new movie just sounds desperate.

I agree. They've tried doing this whole musical thing after HSM and is just hasn't worked. Prom didn't do well. Lemonade mouth (or whatever it was called) didn't do well, CR the first one did ok but the second one didn't do well. Disney just needs to let it go. They aren't going to have a huge hit like HSM again most likely. Stuff like that doesn't just happen. Its one in a million.

I think Disney just needs to move on from this whole musical thing because clearly kids aren't loving it like they loved HSM/CR.

Does anyone remember when Disney movies actually had something inspirational behind them, back in the 90's the disney movies weren't musicals and they taught us things (like Tru confesions). I miss those kinds of movies.

Erm... in HSM they taught you to break the status quo and follow your dreams, despite peer pressure. Musicals =/= crap. It's just that lately, they TRY to make good musicals and they fail, but that doesn't mean any MUSICAL is bad.
