Selena Gomez Interview interview: 'I was getting kind of repetitive in terms of the roles I was picking, and I really wanted to do something that was completely different. I like Indie films and I think it is a good route for her to take to slowly get up to more serious and bigger roles in bigger movies, BUT I don't think that this kind of Indie film is good for her. The script seems like it would be kind of poor, but I guess we will see when it comes out.

I'm looking forward to Spring Breakers. Selena taking on a different role shows versatility. She made the proper choice with this movie, she needed something that wasn't targeted at kids to get out of the box she's put herself in with casting. There's nothing wrong with working your way up.
I think that she should have done a darker film, but she thought that this kind of film would make her be taken more seriously and she thought it was kind of "dark" when it really isn't. I think it's okay for someone like Vanessa who has had roles in other movies released to big screen, but she has only done like Monte Carlo and Ramona and Beezus and she really should have done something else before this to make a transition.

An example of a serious role in the movie industry (if we're talking young actresses that are close to her age) would be Dakota Fanning in 'Hounddog', Sofia Vassileva in 'My Sister's Keeper' and Ellen Page in 'Juno'. Gritty, CHALLENGING roles.
She wants to be taken seriously filming an entire movie in a bikini, with a 'rapping' white drug dealer? The film should basically be dubbed 'The four idiots who robbed a restaurant.'
I can't help but cringe when she says something stupid like this, she messes up way too much with her career choices.
She needs to take on more mature roles, not act like a 14 year old running half naked which is basically Faith in Spring Breakers. She just looks like a kid with no self respect or morals doing crap like that.

I think the poor child thinks that just because Harmony directed this film, it will become an indie smash hit and be well received by critics.
The truth is, is that none of Harmony's films were approved by movie critics. Not in the 'we're too prude to watch this' way, but because the scripts are... not very well written, the angles are all off (and not in a 'indie angle-off' way, in a 'I'm a kid with my Dad's camera' way), the acting is not very well directed, the actors THINK it's been directed well but the finished product is just a grotesque pile of junk.
I don't know how many *indie* movies Selena has watched, but I think her mentality is 'If it's weird, and it doesn't look like a normal movie, it must mean that the Director is a serious guy!' The truth is far from that. :/

I heard she took this role to prepare for "13 Reasons Why", which would be even darker than this, which sounds smart. Baby steps is the best in this industry. But even so, she plays the good, religious girl in this "dark" film; it's not much of a baby step in itself; more like a drag of half a baby step lol

Movie critics actually know more about serious roles than the actresses THEMSELVES. It's better to be a serious movie critic rather than a serious actor/actress if you want to get a feel of what good acting looks like.
In fact, every professional critic on Metacritic and Rottentomatoes generally agrees that Selena's acting can not even be called acting, it's that bad. Look at the reviews for Monte Carlo, Ramona and Beezus, etc. They all describe her acting as 'awful' and she only seems to possess '3 emotions'.
I know this is really harsh of me to say, but Selena is completely talent-less and just because her role in Wizards was really sarcastic, people instantly labelled her acting as good. It's not even close to good. She has a lot of work to do and straight away she jumps to the role of a depressed and emotionally drained teen who has committed suicide? She really IS naive and I'm afraid to see what the finished product of that film will look like.
By the way, having fans does not make you a better actress. Most of her fans are in the age range of 3-11, and they want someone to look up to. She's a pretty girl who has a show on the most famous children's network of all time, Disney Channel. How can she NOT have millions of fans? She played a magical Wizard and then released a bunch of albums and music videos. And I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but Demi helped her audience grow wider. Camp Rock was HUGE at one point and Demi mentioned Selena in nearly all of her interviews, then they starred in a DCOM together.
Majority of her fans haven't even started high school yet, and you think that they are mature enough to decently analyse her acting? Having fans does not mean that you are a good actress, it just means that you're likable to the audience in the industry.
When I first heard of the movie I thought it was going to be a comedy film, but now they're making it sound like something way different.
It will probably fail since their fans can't see it, even though that's why they got the roles was because of their fanbase.

I actually think that Selena did the right move! She had actually put herself outside her comfort zones--no matter how small or how big the baby steps she made would be, it's still outside her comfort zone level! Kudos to her for doing that! I doubt it if people would say that she didn't learn anything from all these movie shoots and from the directors she had worked with! Most of the successful actresses has started out this way, small roles, and gradually moves on to more challenging, sexy roles! She doesn't need to be like the other actresses like Dakota Fanning who started to act in the movies right away! Selena started from Disney TV so she'll do it the way which will be best suited to her! Kristen Stewart has been paid millions in movies, but I still don't think she could act better than Selena! Selena has lots of potentials and that I could definitely see! Lol!
It wasn't really that difficult to learn how to smoke--learning how to do the bad things are easier than learning how to do the good stuffs! It definitely wouldn't be easy if you don't like to smoke and if you know that it's not a good thing to do! Selena maybe naive, but it's a good thing because she doesn't get as much peer influence from others and she could stand alone in a pool of mud like a lotus flower does in contrast to its environment! Selena didn't want to experiment smoking herself instead she had decided to ask around from her friends to find out what is the right way to do it! I don't think there's anything wrong with that!
i get that she wants to take roles independent of disney...but this is definitely not the role that will make her seem like a serious actress. don't get me wrong tho, i kinda want to see the movie just to see what it's really about and all. but it's not movie to be taken seriously.
