Timothy and Theron Thomas told VIBE about Miley Bieber’s new single ‘We Can’t Stop': ‘When you listen to the Miley Cyrus record that we did, it’s not ratchet but it definitely has a lot of urban feel to it. She was like, ‘I want urban, I just want something that just feels Black.”
Miley took the song after Rihanna passed on it: ‘They played it for Miley and she had just come from partying. She was like, ‘I was just partying with my friends and everything you just said in this song I seen. I was looking at it from standing on a couch with my friends, just chilling in the cut and looking around the club like whoa…I’m hearing the song like that was my weekend. I have to do this song,’ [she said] and then we just got connected from there.”
Producer Mike Will Made It told MTV: ‘It was kind of crazy ’cause.. when I originally worked on ‘We Can’t Stop,’ we had did it for Rihanna. The idea was more towards Rihanna. And then Rihanna, she heard [her Unapologetic track] ‘Pour It Up,’ and then she got on ‘Pour It Up’ right away. And she didn’t even hear ‘We Can’t Stop.’ So then we finished up the record.
Miley liked it, so I thought we were going to knock out one record, and we ended up going in, caught a good vibe, and she’s real cool, regular person. We went in, she nailed the record, and she did it with her swag. So it sounds totally different than from what we originally tried to come up with.’
