Via Team Jonas: The Jonas Brothers will be performing LIVE on the O Music Awards this wee and they are nominated two O Music Awards, Fan Army and Best Artist Instagram. They will also be gracing 24-hour livestream with some tunes! The O Music Awards go down THIS WEEK, June 19, kicking off at 7 PM EST right here at OMusicAwards.com.
The Jonas Brothers are primed to start off 24 hours of live music at this time, the first of 50+ bands to play our day-long, online music festival. The show will also feature a passel of amazing award presentations, as well as musician, motivational speaker and all-around party animal Andrew W.K. attempting to break a new world record, longest drum session in a retail store, in the Oakley store in Times Square.
So what did you think of your nomination? Joe: I was very surprised. It’s cool, you think that you are active and use social media quite a bit, but don’t expect to be recognized for it. It’s a really cool show and we’re looking forward to being part of it. It’s just a great feeling.
So how did you get started using Instagram? I remember I was a little bit late to the game of Instagram. I was pretty active on Twitter and using what Twitter had, TwitPics and stuff. I remember Nick got onto to Instagram and he was like, ‘Dude, this is awesome.’ So I checked it out and I was hooked.
I’m obviously pretty addicted to it now. Every city that I go to, it’s always nice because you can use a geotag and show where you are. It actually kind of helps you to remember the places you travel to.
How do you feel having this new venue with which to connect with your fans? It’s really nice to be able to share with your fans right away, I think that’s something that all social media and especially Instagram is able to do now. Sometimes you don’t really know what to say, so tweeting something sometimes can get tough, but if you just want to show one picture or an art piece that you’ve seen in a city or just a flower, the most simple stuff you can take pictures of [you can use Instagram]. And all the different effects you can put on it, I think everyone feels like their own little photographer. But you really are able to capture things and share it with the world instantly. That’s something I really like having, that relationship with the fans and friends.
So do you have any tips for Instagrammers?
I would say don’t be afraid to just post things and don’t write captions. I think it’s nice sometimes nice to be able to just post whatever you see or you are. I think I tend to flood people with a bulk of pictures. But, yeah, sometimes just leave it open to let people take their own interpretation of what’s going on.
So this is a silly question: Do you have a favorite filter?
I think I actually do. My favorite filter is X-Pro II filter. That one I use quite a bit.
So I also wanted to ask you, since you all are playing the show: What was one of the best experiences with live music that you have ever had?
The biggest one would probably be when we performed with Stevie Wonder at the Grammys — that was a life-changing experience for us and a dream come true. We always looked up to him and we love his music. To perform with him was mind-blowing. We really love that memory.
How about a show that you saw growing up? One that made you think: ‘I need to make music?’
I would say I’ve seen Paul McCartney live a few times and I remember really young, growing up our parents playing the Beatles in the house and just going: ‘This could be something that I want to do for the rest of my life. Definitely watching him has always molded me to want to do this professionally.
So one more question: You guys are also nominated in our Fan Army FTW category. What do you think of your fans? What’s the most unique thing about Team Jonas?
I think our fans are very passionate. They are very supportive and they also are dedicated. We can always rely on them to get the word out about music and things like that. They’re like our little promo team sometimes. But at the end of the day, they’re always so great to be able to rely on and just sweet. We really treasure and love our fans.
So do you have anything you want to say to them now?
I would just say I love their support and I think they’re the best in the world. It’s an honor to be on the show and I’m excited to continue my social media-ing!
