Good Luck Charlie Lesbian Couple Plot

Good-Luck-Charlie-Snow-Show-Parts-1-and-2-mia-talerico-18840306-1019-533

Next season an episode of Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie will feature a family with two moms. Producers are currently casting the couple, with production set for next week. The episode will air in early 2014 as part of Good Luck Charlie’s final season, reports TV Guide. The characters are only expected to appear in this one episode.

In the storyline, parents Amy and Bob Duncan (Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer) set up a playdate for preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) and one of her new friends. When the kid arrives, the Duncans learn that Charlie’s pal has two moms. That’s fine, but the potential new friendship is put to the test as one mom chats with Amy, and the other is stuck listening to Bob’s dull stories.

The playdate is actually the secondary story in the episode, as much of the action will center on Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) and her best friend Ivy, as Ivy prepares to head off to college. But Disney Channel understands the groundbreaking nature of featuring a same-sex couple on one of its sitcoms and took extra care in crafting the episode.

‘This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors. Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.’

Disney Channel already tested the waters last year with its on-air social outreach campaign ‘Make Your Mark.’ In one segment, a teen with two moms was featured, a move that was called a ‘big step forward’ by GLAAD.

i thought it was the last season?

Next season is the last season I think.

it isn’t too young for kids to learn about this. i worked at a summer camp for 2-6 year olds and really they didn’t care about same sex couples. As long as someone isn’t putting thoughts against LGBT’s in their heads they look at them like any normal couple.

Honestly if kids are old enough to understand love between a man and a woman (or a father and a mother) then they’re old enough to understand love between a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Kids go with the flow. If they learn early on that it’s no big deal, then they won’t treat it as a big deal. Trying to hide it and “wait until they’re older” makes it seem like being gay is something shameful.

Kudos to Disney. I bet 1 Million Moms will collectively have a heartattack. It’ll be awesome!

    Good for Disney!!!

4 For you, you go glen cocoa!
    lol :P

but seriously, I think that’s good of them to do this :) it can only help make this next generation become more used to/comfortable to the idea so they don’t turn out as ignorant as their parents or grandparents’ generation
and plus, with all these homosexual stars that are out in the media right now (Justine Bieber, that Louis one from 1D, Joe Jonas, L.Lohan being bisexual) it can get them more used to and comfortable to the idea :) go Disney!

I may come off as a hypocrite, but oh well. I don’t support gay marriage, but think it’s good they’re doing this. There are same sex parents and they shouldn’t be discriminated against.

  • EarthChild

About time. I’ve been disappointed with Disney lately because it’s no where near what it was like when I was growing up, but I think this is a great opportunity. I know that some parents will probably be outraged when they learn that an episode like this will be put out, but kudos to Disney for taking this step.

I want to stab mia talerico repeatedly and make her fucking scream her head off!!

These comments on this post show how messed up the world is. Gay marriage…? You people are disgusting.

  • Anonymous

Disne shouldn’t do this. Its going to show young kids that same sex marriage/relationships are ok and its not. Keep the traditional sin-free relationship. Man is made for woman and woman is made for man.

    :O
So there’s some stupid anonymous 6 year old commenting every other comment about how she wants to stab the 4 year old in the show.

and yet the thing you take offense to, is people supporting gay marriage???????????????????????????????????
you think THAT is what is “messed up with the world” and “disgusting”…..??!??!!
but comments about hurting a child are totally ok with you?

    yeah, you seem really intelligent.
    and logical.
    and worth anyone’s time.

YOU are what’s wrong with this world.
shame on you for being so young (obviously) yet so ignorant and beyond-stupid.

gay marriage is what’s wrong with the world..?

yet you make your comment IMMEDIATELY following behind one where the person talks about harming the little baby in the show, and are totally cool with that?

    yeah….

People are not ‘made’ for other people; they’re made for themselves. People have the right to do whatever they please with their body, and they have the right to love whomever they want. Why should you or any other person have the right to tell another human being who they can and can’t marry? Why are you so concerned about who a person has sexual relations with? If they’re not affecting you in any negative way, you have no right to tell someone what to do with their own genitals.

Same gender marriages and relationships are perfectly okay. And this ‘traditional’ Christian marriage that you’re speaking of also denies divorce, and allows older men to buy young girls from families to become their brides. Marriage predates Christianity; it’s not yours to define.

It’s assholes like you that make children think same sex marriages are not okay; people are not born homophobic, they’re taught to be by cunts like you.

Swearing isn’t illegal, lying isn’t illegal, adultery isn’t illegal. Religion has no place in the legal system.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA

  • Anonymous

yeah this idea is a lil bizarre

  • Anonymous

not that I don’t think naturally gay people should be happy but I don’t think gay people should expose with parades and things like that, I think they should just be, and know that god loves them jus the way they are.

I don’t agree with people “experimenting” and out of nowhere become gay or straight, it should not be a game.

  • EarthChild

    And why isn’t it, exactly?

  • EarthChild

“Traditional, sin-free relationship.” I’m going to assume that you are Christian since you use the term “sin-free.” You are making it sound like heterosexual people or couples do not sin by Christian definition, which is incorrect. I’m pretty sure plenty of what you call “traditional” relationships have sin in their relationship. Pre-marital sex? It is a sin, and plenty of unmarried heterosexual couples have sex before marriage. That doesn’t make it a “sin-free” relationship now does it? In Christian terms, everyone sins, so who are you to say how one can and can not sin?

Oh, and another thing. Not everyone is a Christian or even practices a religion. So technically Disney is going to show kids what is not okay to YOU.

  • EarthChild

Since this kind of relates to this topic, I’ll just leave this here:

    I agree,
a man was made, and was given a women.

now, if a person is born gay, that is OKAY.
people shouldn’t judge them or ANYONE!everyone should respect other, & follow their hearts.

I also don’t agree on the random changes. Like you said one day they are straight, then they are gay, then they are straight again, there are so many fake people. I can’t stand that.

    but already showing kids that?
    im not too sure on.

  • EarthChild

I don’t believe I’ve ever known a person that changes their sexuality like you said in paragraph three unless you are referring to bisexuals. In that case, I could see how someone could still be wondering if they are gay or just bisexual because I’m sure that could be a bit confusing, but I wouldn’t consider that fake.

Why not show kids that? There’s nothing wrong with it. There are lesbian couples in the world. There are gay couples in the world. They are just as likely, in fact more likely, to see that in their every day lives out in the town with their parents.

I do not think that this episode is in any way throwing political views down children’s throats. Disney is probably doing this episode very tastefully because it is such a sensitive topic to some people.

  • Aspen

It’s about freaking time! They’ve been tip-toeing around this topic in hopes of not riling up the crazy, hateful, ignorant antis and republiturds.

Bless! This opens the door to MORE diversity, equality and understanding in our media. GET ‘EM WHILE THEY’RE YOUNG.

  • Anonymous

this is so good news! kids doesn’t actually care if there are two moms or two dads, but adults are who make them think it’s “bad” or “unnatural”it’s time to normalize these stuff.

You should feel scared right now. You’ve been threatening famous people here on oceanup for a whole month now! It’s so fucking annoying. Everytime i go to a recent oceanup post, there’s always a crazy comment from you about stabbing or shooting someone. You want to stab a 4 year old girl?! That’s terrible! I really hope oceanup finds your IP address and they ban you forever.

  • EarthChild

I don’t think that they are trying to push political views on anyone, but if you want to talk about “shoving beliefs,” someone could just as much consider it “shoving beliefs” on kids when there is only heterosexual couples on the air, or no interracial couples, etc. It’s all about perspective.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think Disney should be promoting their gay agenda to KIDS. It’s a children tv network. Just because the people who work at Disney are gay doesn’t mean they should shove their beliefs to little kids. Only 4 percent of the population is gay folks. They run the media, that’s why they push it on tv shows.

  • Anonymous

but there’s nothing wrong with it if they wanna put gays then good! if they wanna put a talking banana its good too! they’re not “shoving their beliefs” to anyone if you are not capable to accept this reality then don’t watch it its easy

  • Anonymous

Who cares? There should be no difference in the show, whether the kid has one mom and one dad, or two moms or two dads. If you’re having an issue with them putting gay marriage on the show then grow the fuck up.

    look….
gay people are gay people, it is what it is.
now if they are promoting their “gayness” then that is ridiculous and a sin …

a couple living together without being married is also a sin

losing your virginity before being married is also a SIN

-So gay couple usually marry then create a household. – they want to do the right thing, the right steps.

Also now a days, people don’t care for marriage, they say its just a simple “paper with a signature’ …. well NO
its no like that, marriage is the beautiful love between two HUMAN BEINGS, the way they start creating life together, learning from eachother, being faithful to eachother, helping eachother, being there for comfort

but now couples start living together, with no marriage, and they throw that down the drain,

now a days people get married just to marry and they get divorced, so they are also making marriage look like a piece of shit

    cheating is a SIN
    JUDGING OTHERS IS A SIN

PEOPLE SIN ALL THE TIME !!!! so those who are judging the lives of other people are sinners.
just care of your OWN relationship, its okay to be selfish sometimes. Care for your own and not for others, you can’t decide for someone who to love. Just be a better person every single every single day, help the environment, help the poor. Do that, and stop judging others. let the situation be.

karma does exist, so if there is wrong doing or Good doing, the person will receive whats coming towards them.

if you are “anti gay” , its OKAY you were raised that way, you might be religious or believe differently. BUT DONT JUDGE others.

if you agree on GAY, then that’s OKAY, and just keep living your life, and dontjudge the people who aren’t to comfortable with the idea.
    lets things go their way

  • Xasktaylorx

I’m glad they are doing that, but isn’t it to early for kids to learn about Lesbians? Everyone’s different. Can I log into my account now? Mobile site is a no go. =|

  • Anonymous

I’m really glad they’re doing this. It’s 2013, we should really be more open and accepting to gay and lesbian couples. It hasn’t been anything new to us for years. I don’t think it’s too young for kids to “learn about lesbians”. Someday kids won’t grow up being surprised when they see two people of the same sex together.

  • Anonymous

^ I don’t think its early for kids. I think its really good for kids to acknowledge that some people can have two dads or two moms. And people with two moms and two dads can feel accepted and comfortable.

As far as I know, there is not going to be a “next” season of Good Luck Charlie, this is the last one.
