Lorde‘s ‘Royals’ rules Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week. It returns to the top of Digital Songs (2-1) for a fifth total week at No. 1 (222,000 downloads sold, down 13%, according to Nielsen SoundScan). ‘Royals’ takes over atop the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart this week. It’s No. 1 on Hot Rock Songs for a ninth week.
Miley Cyrus’ former two-week Hot 100 No. 1 ‘Wrecking Ball’ keeps at No. 3. It returns to No. 1 on Streaming Songs (2-1) for a fifth cumulative frame at the apex (8.9 million, down 10%); holds at No. 5 on Digital Songs (136,000, down 17%); and bullets at No. 6 for a second week on Radio Songs (107 million, up 14%).
Lorde, Perry and Cyrus have monopolized the Hot 100’s top three spots since the week of Sept. 28. With this week marking the seventh straight that the trio has locked up the top three, it moves closer to the mark for the most weeks in a row that that only lead solo women, shutting out men entirely, have controlled the region: female soloists managed such a reign for a record 10 consecutive frames in 1999, thanks to hits by Brandy, Deborah Cox, Britney Spears, Monica, Cher and Whitney Houston.
