Hocus Pocus actress Bette Midler stops by “Katie” on Thursday (Oct. 31), where host Katie Couric asks her about young artists pushing the envelope, citing singers like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga: “I think there’s a difference between pushing the envelope sexually and pushing the envelope creatively. I think you can be as creative as you want to be … you can roll out old ideas and give them a new coat of paint,” says Midler. “But the idea of whipping out the girls, I don’t know, there’s a grossness to it that is not flattering … to the women themselves.

Couric also asks Midler about her classic Halloween movie, “Hocus Pocus,” which just celebrated its 20th anniversary: “I love it. … We made it before the tidal wave of Halloween happened. … Now it’s huge. It’s huge. Kids, grown-ups, everybody takes part in it. This movie was kind of at the beginning of the wave. We had a great time making it, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and I, and we laughed the whole time,” says Midler.
