Josh Hutcherson will honor transgendered teen Zachary Kerr, 19, at TeenNick HALO Awards. He is transitioning from female to male and has become an advocate through the Greater Boston PFLAG organization. Hutcherson himself is also an activist, having founded the Straight But Not Narrow (SBNN) organization.
Josh: ‘Equal rights have been a huge part of my life from the day I was born. My mom was raised by her two uncles who were both gay and passed away from AIDS before I was born. I didn’t get to meet them, but they were amazing people and that made my family realize that there’s no difference between a gay person and a straight person. We’re all just people. Zachary’s an inspiration because he helps raise awareness about LGBT issues and he teaches everyone that it’s OK to be you, whoever you are, and his message is all about acceptance and equality.’
Show will air at Hollywood Palladium on Sunday, November 17, at 8 PM ET on Nick at Nite. The HALO Awards will also include performances from Fall Out Boy and Austin Mahone and feature appearances from Queen Latifah, basketball player Chris Paul and ‘Pretty Little Liars’ star Shay Mitchell.
