Selena ‘Christian & Support Gay Rights’

Selena also talks about not being allowed into gay-fearing Russia under!

  • Emily

“If I was a Christian girl, I probably wouldn’t have done this movie.” -Selena Gomez

    #Practicewhatyoupreach

    • Clauber

      It calls acting!

    • aff

She just used the wrong words, she wanted to say if she was a super religious girl, she would not do the movie. Selena always declared herself Christian, she attends bible study groups and goes to the church regularly. But you already know that, you just wants have something to hold against her

    • boo

I believe the word you left out was SUPER* Christian. She was referring to someone who thought she was so “hardcore” Christian that her religion would have made her too conservative to try out for her role in Spring Breakers. She was basically saying she isn’t old-school Christian.

    • cerenagee

Selena has always made it known that she’s a christian girl. Since day 1 on Disney. She said if she was a super Christian girl that the movie would have been to racy for her so stop.

  • cerenagee

Good for her making it publicly known she supports gay rights.

    • gfgfgf

It’s not exactly a brave thing to do. Let me know when she takes a stand on a truly controversial issue, like abortion rights or Palestinian rights.

      • TruthHurts

Wow… A 40 year old man (Wentworth Miller) spent his life not being able to even acknowledge that he is gay, not even wanting to be associated with gayness and even lobbying to cut a succesful show short because people were asking him too many gay questions and you say it is not a brave thing for a 21 year old Christian to do??? Makes me wonder what kind of things you stand for?

        • micheal

brave is miley who supported them first from the Disney girl, she speaks her mind, while selena waits carefully on people reaction on miley and then if she see she gets more support then she copies and start to talk about it,she saw miley got a lot of support so there she goes copying once again!! typical copycat.

          • anononmous

I agree that Miley was the brave one. She had the spine to come out in support of gay rights at a time when she knew that doing so would alienate a lot of her – at the time – conservative tween fanbase and their Bush voting soccer moms.

          • az

“If you want to know who’s gonna buy your record for the rest of your life, get Brazilians and gays on your side.” – Miley Cyrus
Everything she does is moved for money

          • Cici

Brave? eh, maybe. Rebellious, and doing things for attention? YES!

          • PshPlease

miley is a known homophobe.. until RECENTLY!

          • LAChris08

Actually, no. She has been linked in the past to various females, and is known to have supported gays for as long as I can remember.

          • Godney

is getting a tattoo supporting the gays? cus i have never seen an interview of her openly talking about gay rights.
And she just used gays for her commercials.

      • cerenagee

Who gives a shit if she isn’t saying her opinion about things like that. Abortion rights and another countries problems are not her problem. Abortion is a woman’s choice and people are going to feel however they want about it. Saying she supports people being able to love whoever the want while being christian is a powerful message so fuck off you bitter OBVIOUS Palestinian

        • laura

I don’t get what’s so brave about that either. It’s a normal thing to say you’re pro gay rights. Scratch that, I meant human rights.
But then again, Americans aren’t the same as Europeans.

          • cerenagee

I wish Americans had a moreeEuropean view on gay rights but the truth is they dont and its sad.

          • laura

There’s still people though but it is a minority and most of them who are against it are either 80 years old or are extreme christians and muslims (not meant offensively at all, it’s a proven fact).
I know Europe isn’t all that but when it comes to things like this, I’m damn proud of being European.

      • Cici

That’s not her calling, nor her walk of faith.

      • LAChris08

Considering how volatile the issue is in America, it is a brave thing to do. The GOP is crumbling because of it, states rights are being reviewed cause of it, and some states are trying to secede cause of it. Hollywood is a fickle place, some are staunch conservatives, IE Fox, that hate anything, or anybody that supports progressive issues. Coming out as supporting this could affect her career, hell it already has, she cannot go into Russia.

        • ashleyofcourse

lmao affect her career? in democratic hollywood? from what i hear the conservative celebs are the ones who have to be quiet.

          • LAChris08

Yes, affect her career. Most of Hollywood is quite progressive, but there are studios that are not. Fox being one of them, same with CBS. For years, CBS has been considered the old-person’s channel. NBC used to be very conservative as well. Hollywood is very misogynistic, and very much run by good-ole boys. Disney is one of the most progressive studios, and they have conduct clauses in their contracts that tell actors and actresses on Disney channel what they can and cannot do. Vanessa Hudgens ran into that, so did Lindsey Lohan. Some producers may be very liberal, but the business itself tends to conservative side.

And the ones that need to be quiet are the extremely outspoken ones that bad mouth the government a lot. But that is both sides.

          • ashleyofcourse

hm i didnt know that. thats actually very interesting about the over all business aspect of hollywood!
but idk i still dont think itd really affect her career though cause in the past 3 years ive just heard sooo many celebs saying they support it and they still get work.

      • Godney

Sorry but how is not talking about gay rights a controversial issue when out there are countries trying PASS A LAW against gays? (yes, i would love it if she talks about abortion rights and others, but still… it is a thing)

  • sdfjksdfjkdf

I look forward to the day when the mental illness of Christianity is swept into the dustbin of history.

    • seriously

mental illness? what a hateful view on someone’s faith. no need for the judging. if you don’t believe nor agree with it, just do you. way too much hate in this world.

      • fldjfklf

Most of the hate in this world is coming from religious loonies who think that the obscurantist scriblings of primitive jewish men represent the views of a god they can’t possibly know exists.

        • boo

Actually, most of the hate in this world comes from people who are intolerant of the views of others…like you.

          • laura

Actually, all wars are based on religion because you can’t tolerate other religions.
Atheists at least respect it that people believe in Allah, God or Buddha or whatever but that doesn’t mean we have to like it or agree with it.
Also, the intelligence of people who believe in a god is quite questionable. Seriously, some of you won’t even accept the fact that god didn’t make the world even though there is scientific proof of that –‘

          • Cici

Science only goes so far then comes God ;)

          • laura

            are you really that stupid?

          • Cici

Or not as closed minded as some? Possibly.

          • laura

It has nothing to do with being close minded: it is science!
Seriously, the Roman and the Greek had about 40 gods or something, do you believe in them as well? or is that just bullshit to you?
You are basing your opinion on a book that was written 3000 years ago when there was no science at all and when people weren’t as intelligent as they are now. So if we were living back then, I would understand that you still believed in god but honestly, we live in 21st century now: there is no reason to believe in god because everything has been explained by science. So yes, you are stupid.

          • Cici

So since I chose to believe there is more to life than just this world, and since I chose to believe there is a loving and merciful God who has created this world, created each & every one of us, A God who is still working strong today, I am stupid? You telling me it’s stupid to believe a book written thousands of years ago is stupid because of it’s age? Then how is referencing history of a life style so many years ago any different? Your argument is invalid. Because you are coming at me with a close minded view. Not everything has been explained by science, and God is still working today. There is no reason to believe in God because of science? What if i told you there is no reason to believe in science because God explains everything? It doesn’t work like that. I can see where science explains a lot. But where did science come from, where did those ideas come from, where did the intelligence come from to see how science works, who created the ways of science? Saying “its always been there” doesnt work for me. Because God has always been there too. Can’t see God? Well, i can’t see the atoms that make up everything? So I should put my faith in that? I can’t see the wind blow? So I should just assume it’s just there? Or Should I believe that everything has come together for a reason? God created a universe equipped with animals, chemicals, plants, rain, wind, and knowledge. Knowledge to learn and grown, and to progress. We also have the power to choose, and sadly some have chosen to put their faith in something that He created without giving him credit.

          • Marina And My Diamonds

You just proved and disproved your own point in less than 30 minutes. I shall explain why.

You said: “Atheists at least respect it that people believe in Allah, God or Buddha or whatever but that doesn’t mean we have to like it or agree with it.”

You disproved your first comment by saying you could respect other people’s beliefs but didn’t have to agree with it.. Did you show her respect? No, you implied she was stupid THEN matter-of-factly said she was stupid which isn’t showing respect.

You also said: “Actually, all wars are based on religion because you can’t tolerate other religions.” If this was around the 1400’s you would have actually started a war if we were going by your “facts”. Which you proved your own point by being something you said you weren’t. There was nothing about any of your comments that showed tolerance of any kind.

          • LAChris08

Devils advocate here..not all wars are fought for religion. In fact, most wars are fought for resources, land, or ethnicity. Religion often folds into it, but the largest wars were fought for way more than religion. The problem with religious and ideology based warfare, there is no coming back. the war will usually be done only when one side has either obliterated the other, or they run out of resources to fight. And then the fight goes underground, ie extreme Muslim and Western world, or Muslim vs Israel. While land definitely has something to do with it, religion is the key factor in that struggle, and you don’t see that ever ending.

        • self

does anyone know where hate was even born? pls answer back

          • penny

when the serpent tempted Adam & Eve. that introduced sin into this world.

          • LAChris08

When one hunter-gatherer group realized that another had more resources, and they went over to the one that had more and killed them for their food and women. That is when killing began. Hate, likely when Mesopotamians and Egyptians first ran into each other.

  • Rosie

I’m glad she supports gay rights, but disappointed she hasn’t grown up yet and abandoned the dangerous fantasy of Christianity.

    • RedneckAtHeart

There are different levels of religion. There are the people that are open minded and then there are the ones that are still stuck in the 50’s and damn anyone that thinks different from them. I’m Christian, but I can’t stand the ones that think we should live like they did 200 years ago..

      • Cici

True. There are radicals in every religion though. I hate how people always judge or single out Christianity.

        • RedneckAtHeart

Me too. Muslims and Christians are really the only ones that do get singled out…

          • LAChris08

Oh Jews do too. But i think its cause the People of the Book, ie Muslim, Jews, and Christians are the most vocal about their fundamentalism, and since there are more of them, they get singled out the most. If religious nut-jobs didn’t have the internet, it wouldn’t be such a big deal. When I get some nut-job telling me science is evil on a chat room, I laugh a little, then remind him where the internet, computers, and electricity comes from…science. Shuts up the most idiotic, but I always get some joker who says God gave us all of that…

          • RedneckAtHeart

            That’s hilarious (the last sentence)

    • boo

Talk about growing up when you’ve done so yourself and abandoned the delusion that believing or not believing in something makes you smarter or better than anyone else. That makes you just as delusional as the religious extremists you criticize.

  • cerenagee

I accept everyone’s religion. Personally I don’t believe in any god. I believe in a higher energy but not a god perse. My problem with Christianity inparticular is that every christian/catholic has their own interpretation of the bible. That’s something I don’t agree with. A religion is a religion. You don’t get to pick and choose what parts work for you and Go hard core on the parts that do. And there’s a few things that are not said but simply assumed in the bible like the whole gay thing. It doesn’t say anywhere god hates gays it simply said marriage is between man and woman. Did it saysame sex marriage is restricted? No. I think its amazing that Selena supports something that many people in our world are still very close minded to.

    • collin

I see where you are coming from. but the most common misconception is that God hates. which is completely untrue. radical & close minded Christians twist the bible up trying to make themselves seem perfect. It clearly says a “man shall not lie down with another man”…but it also says “God hates the sin, but loves the sinner”. he does not hate, he loves every one of us, no matter what we are doing because he knows we are going to be tempted by sin. saying God hates gays is nonsense because not one sin is greater than another. so if he hates gays, then he would liars too. no. he loves every one. have your own religion, but no the truth about one before judging. just setting that straight.

      • cerenagee

I’m not judging. I don’t care if you’re christian or Buddhist or anything. I admire everyone for having a belief and being passionate about that faith. I do not admire and do not like when people pick and choose parts of their religion that they want to follow. I also find it very hypocritical that half of the Christians I meet preach about love and forgiveness while the other half are preaching the same thing while still being hateful toward gays and other races. I don’t mind the actual religion I used to be Christian but I realized it wasn’t what I truly believed in and part of it was because each priest interprets the bible different then projects their interpretations on people who then interpret that differently.

        • Cici

I agree. It’s hard to believe when you are being told different things from people teaching the same religion. That’s why I believe you have your own relationship with God, and your own walk of faith. That’s all that matters. God knows your heart.

  • dlovCyr

Isn’t she lesbian with that girl Charity?

    • anon

lol it does seem kind of suspicious that her only serious relationship with a “man” was with Justin Bieber. And she and Ashley Benson always seem really into each other when they’re together…

      • poe

She was also with Nick Jonas, who was probably her first real relationship. She dates long term. Hopefully she finds someone better than those two.

      • dri

first of all justin bieber didn’t hit man hood till maybe after they broke up, juss my opinion tho

    • LAChris08

You dont need to be gay to support gay rights. I love women, as a man, but I have no problem with gay men or women, I think everyone should have a chance at happiness, and the government should stay out of personal choice. Unless that choice of course hurts another.

  • D

You can be a person that believes in God.
But to be a Christian, you are a follower of Christ. In the Bible, homosexuality is wrong. Now this is NOT God saying he doesn’t love them. He LOVES them, he just does not support the act.
So I would say for Selena, that she is not technically a Christian, but just believes in God. Believing in God and having an actual relationship with are two very different things.

    • adri

your on point…i feel the same way you do. I don’t understand how you can have a relationship with yourself tho i was kinda waiting for her to say ‘having a relationship with God’ cause that’s what it is. im a christian and my thing is how can you be Christian and support the act? i mean we can love on people but what kind of christian are we if were supporting whats forbidden in the bible?

      • lilly

basically our whole purpose is to love. We do not have the power to judge. you are supposed to love your neighbor because we aren’t all perfect, and you know one sin is not greater than the other.

      • LAChris08

        Matthew 7:1-3
        King James Version (KJV)
7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

That’s one of the more important tenants that is usually ignored. Not your place to judge anyone. That’s God’s job.

        • D

          No one is judging here.
I don’t understand why people say we are judging them just because we say don’t support the act.
Thats it. Plain and simple. We don’t support the act. I have plenty of gay friends that I LOVE. I just don’t supper the lifestyle. And they know that. None of them have stopped wanting to hang out with me because of that. In fact, since I am so loving towards them, they are more open to learning about God and his love for them.
You are right in saying that we can’t judge each other. Thats true. But we are called to LOVE each other, even in our sin. We all have issues we’re still dealing with, but I have loving people around to help me with them.

          • LAChris08

The point is that the Christian Right is actually doing just that. They are trying to tell the government to judge them. Either keep them from getting married, from getting kids, even from enjoying intimacy. If it were just, as you put it, not supporting the act, as a group, that’s your business, as long as it doesn’t infringe on others, but that’s not what is happening.

    • mags

Selena probably said that because if she says the truth it will start a riot& she will lose half her fan base.

      • lil

What truth? that she is not a Christian? She has “I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me” tatooed on her. She often attends Judah Smith church and bible study groups and even mention him on her album’s Thank You’s. He even was at her LA’s concert as everyone of her bilble study’s group. You know anything about someone faith and you find yourself on the right of judge?

        • Cici

You totally twisted that all up. It has nothing to do with someone’s faith. She was saying, Even if Selena followed the strong Christian view of believing being gay is wrong, she would put herself in a horrible situation by saying so. So she says what everyone wants to hear. Calm the fuck down. & FYI, Just because you go to a bible study every week does not make you a Christian. Quit using church going as a reason. Am I saying Selena is not a Christian? No. I’m just saying that is not reason to make someone seem so perfect.

          • lil

She wouldn’t be close friends with gays if she followed the strong Christian view of believing being gay is wrong.

          • Marina And My Diamonds

            NO. Shut up.

          • Cici

Who knows? Loving someone, and agreeing with their life choices is different. As a Christian, you love everyone.

          • ashleyofcourse

woah woahh noo. its quite the opposite. being friends is fine. shoot at some point one of my BFFs was a lesbian. Jesus calls us to love not marginalize. we cant accept the deed, but we can love the bro.

        • LAChris08

          Matthew 6-6 “But
you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray
to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done
in secret will reward you.” This is what I do… I don’t like organized religion, your relationship with God is your own. No need for church, or even bible. You have your faith, and as long as you are a good person who tries to help others I think you will be fine in the hereafter, those were Jesus’ own commandments.

          • ashleyofcourse

well actually its not good works that you need, that Catholicism. its giving your life to Christ that gets you in heaven. also Jesus does say that we need the church, although alot of churches now a days are going rogue so youd have to find one that is still biblical.
but i deffff agree with the top part! Christianity is your relationship with God. only he knows whats in your heart.

          • LAChris08

I am raised Episcopal:) Very close to Catholicism:) Over the years I kinda developed my own structure that works well enough for me:)

    • anon

To be a Christian is believe Jesus is God’s son.

    • anon

There were a thief on the cross next to Jesus (Luke 23:39-43), Jesus promises him that he will be with him in paradise. This man never got to go
to church, and yet he is a Christian because he trusts in Jesus. So in
that sense it is true to say that you don’t have to be a church goer to
      be a Christian.

  • immabetrolling

She said she wasn’t a Christian, then she says she is. But at the same time, she says she supports gay rights. Guurl.

  • Marina And My Diamonds

I’m a Christian & believe people should love whoever they choose to love unless it’s on some pedophile type shit then I can’t agree but other than that I see no problem with it. God loves us all even the ones that hate him & etc, etc.

  • Yup

Most of you all are turning this into something it’s not. You can be a Christian and support gay rights you know. In fact if you are Christian you should support gay rights because being a Christian is about loving and how can you say you are about love if you condone
people being discriminated against and denied basic rights. Just like you can be white and support black rights, or be a man and support women’s rights. Just because someone is not the thing that doesn’t mean they can’t support it. God loves everyone and no sin is bigger than the next. Meaning disobeying my parents and being a homosexual is the same level of sin. There is no end all be all sin. I am a Christian and I believe gays should be treated equally. Do I agree with the way they choose to live their life? No, but it is their choice and everyone is entitled to a choice. I chose to not eat breakfast this morning, it wasn’t a healthy decision but it was my choice and I don’t think anyone should be allowed to impose laws that force me to eat breakfast in the morning or deny me of some things because sometimes I am just not hungry and if I am not hungry I will not force myself to eat. Now everyone shut up and go bake cookies and hug a homosexual because life is too short to be spreading all this hate.

  • true

Selena is bisexual, although she wont label herself.

    • LAChris08

      Based on what information?:)

      • true

well for one her own actions with girls, especially charity, ashley b, and lilly.

        • LAChris08

Have you seen her make out with, or do anything other than hug or cuddle? Girls do that with each other, and she is just affectionate.

          • true

selena is an affectionate person towards her friends thats pretty obvious but shes even more “touchy” with a select few. she has made out with girls.

          • LAChris08

Where? Do you have pictures? Video? Trust me, I am a major fan of Selena, and tend to watch for news on her. I have never seen anything public about her making out with girls. Demi, yes, Miley, yes, Selena, no. Only person I ever remember her making out with in public with is Justin, and while some wonder about him, he is a guy last time anyone checked:) And Charity is her dance instructor, choreographer, and friend, I doubt she, being the professional she is, would jeopardize that relationship with romance. Ive sometimes wondered about Ashley Benson, as Ashley gives off a “vibe” sometimes, but all you have to do is she how Ashley is with her co-stars, very affectionate, hugging and cuddling all the time. Vanessa is the same way, she is always hugging Ashley Tisdale, but they are definitely NOT together. Her perceived “extra-touchy” could just be her being a bit more comfortable with those people. Again, there is no proof, if you have some, you might wanna sell it to TMZ, or just post here.

  • boystan

It just makes me happy to see how many people support gay rights now and how it’s all slowly changing for the better. Proud to be gay tbh.

  • ashleyofcourse

Honestly I think it’s a double edge sword. I understand there are some religious groups who go above and beyond with being anti gay rights. I don’t agree with
that nor do I support their actions but guess what? I’m not pro gay either. I feel it’s opinion isn’t it? Isn’t that what pro gays are fighting for? Their ‘right’ to have a difference of opinion? So then why are you throwing others under the bus for not agreeing with you? That doesn’t make sense at all. So the freedom in the country is only supposed to work so long as people agree with the majority? Hm doesn’t seen fair to me….so how I see it is this. Have your opinion and be done with it. Like I said, I don’t support gay rights. Why?Yes because I am Christian. Do I picket fence and hurt others because they’re gay? No. That’s actually unbiblical. God does not want us to force others or be
aggressive. He wants us to love. I have many gay friends. Love the hell outta them<3 they know I don't support gay rights, and like mature adults they're okay with it. That's progress. That's co-existing. That's understanding that in life, not everyone will agree with you 100% and proof that you'll still survive. So all of you wishing hell and being dismissive because you think we're stuck in the 1600s or whatever, you're actually the ones who have fallen behind. Don't you know bullying is wrong? I'm sure you do, because when people are rude to gays you're usually the first to proclaim it. So stop being hypocritical and get with the program.

Oh and sidenote: I don't think selena is being brave. It's more hip now to say you support gay rights. Lmao y'all know damn well Selena is not going to come out and say, I'm Christian and I don't support gay rights. Hahaa let's be real.

  • Julia

I can’t says it “brave” to say that you support gay rights but I do think its a good thing to do to show you believe deeply about a certain topic that is quite controversial at the moment as so many countries are legalizing gay marriage…also the article is about Russia which penalizes gay equality, they literally take your visa away if they think you’re going to promote such an equality which their government don’t agree with. Hence why people like Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert aren’t allowed into Russia either.
