I think she meant when she very first met him she didn't know he was a celeb. Then she found out he was a celeb and then she had prejudices against him because he was a celeb. She probably thought he would be a jerk or stuck up because he was famous. Then as she got to know him and they got closer, she realized she was wrong about him and they started dating.
So no it's not a lie.
People keep forgetting she's said they were friends before they started dating. So when she says she didn't know he was a celebrity she means when she first met him, not when they first started dating.
