Selena Gomez reportedly spent two weeks at the Dawn At The Meadows Rehab in the Arizona desert in January shortly after cancelling the Australian leg of her Stars Dance tour. The $4000 a night rehab center, which specializes in treating young people for various addictions, caters to celebrity clients, including Elle Macpherson, Matthew Perry and Whitney Houston.
According to TMZ, Selena went for a combination of problems, including alcohol, pot and prescription Ambien. Selena’s decision was largely based on Justin Bieber. Selena blames a lot of her problems on the excesses she was exposed to by being around Bieber and his friends
The 2-week program at The Meadows is called DAW, specifically designed for people between 18 and 26. DAWN specializes in substance dependence, trauma, family dynamics, mental health and relapse prevention.
Selena’s rep told People: ‘Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.’ Selena: ‘It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.’
At the time, a source said she needed a break from her busy acting and touring schedule: ‘She’s been working nonstop since she was 15 and she wants to take a minute to herself.’
Selena didn’t talk about rehab during the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 20. She also appeared to be in good spirits at the Beats Music launch party on Jan. 24 and the Hollywood Stands Up to Cancer benefit on Jan. 28. Source told E! News: ‘She’s never been better. She’s strong and great.’
