Taylor Swift The Giver Movie Trailer

taylor-swift-giverTaylor isn’t in the trailer but the only other relevant person in the movie is Meryl Streep. Coming to theaters August 15, 2014! The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment.

Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

UPDATE: Taylor Swift was in the trailer!

    Here’s the thing though.
Despite a lot of the actors/actresses being not as relevant, they probably have more talent than Swift in terms of ACTING (relax, I am not digging at her music). Remember, Swift was once a nobody as well.

    Looks good.

Why isn’t the movie in black and white? And why is Jonah like a 20 year old man? Forget Taylor Swift, this movie already looks shit.
    Don’t judge a book by it’s movie.

    • Queen Amanda Bynes

  • Hollyhysteria

Meryl streep, katie holmes, and jeff bridges! WOOH

  • laura

Yes Alexander Skarsgard! Hate the fact that Taylor is in it though, girl can’t act at all.

    • Cat

I think she was pretty good on SNL & CSI.
Also isn’t it supposed to be in black and white?

      • laura

Are you for real? She is so bad at acting.. Singers really should stick to singing, just as actors should stick to acting.
I think they did it in colour because Jonas and the Giver can see in bright colours. But I also think they did it because black and white films aren’t exactly popular amongst the youth, I think they would find it weird and wouldn’t understand maybe if they haven’t read the books.

        • Cat

Yeah haha I guess it’s an opinion thing, I do think she was bad in Valentine’s day (or maybe it was her character idk) but I agree, It’s weird that she’s in this huge movie with people like Meryl.

That’s probably why but it kinda makes me scared that they’ll ruin the book for me.

          • laura

That was definitely her worst acting ever haha I think she’s ‘good’ enough to do a little role in a show or for SNL (I mean, none of them are very great actors anyway) but for a role in a film? Absolutely not.
Yeah, it does seem quite odd and I feel like it’s going to lose a lot of meaning because of it. It’d be worse if it had parts that were in colour and then parts that were in black and white though.

  • Cat

I don’t think this is going to do well, at the Box Office. It seems flat somewhere, maybe it was the way the trailer was cut.

Not trying to sound whiny or anything, but is anyone else tired of all their favorite books becoming movies nowadays? lol. This trailer really disappointed me… The Giver was one of my favorite books growing up; it was fine as it was. Hopefully this is just a bad trailer…

    • laura

I know exactly how you feel. It doesn’t bother me when the adaptations are as amazing or even more amazing (a clockwork orange for example) than the books. But I seriously hate it when they can’t. I mean, you already have the story so all you have to do is put it in a script, it shouldn’t be that hard to not ruin it.
I really hope this was a bad trailer as well and that the film will be great but I kind of doubt it.

      • March

Yeah, I agree. I also enjoy it when the movie adaptation is as good, or better than the book. It’s just that it usually takes longer to read a novel than to watch a movie, and especially when it’s a good story, you really get wrapped up and involved in it like its part of your life, lol (at least I do). I somehow feel a little protective over the great stories I have read becoming movies because I fear that the movie wont compare to the great stories. It’s all a matter of opinion at the end of the day whether the movie lives up to the book, but that sadly doesn’t always happen.

        • laura

omg yes, I sometimes even start talking about the characters as if they are my friends haha you can’t ever have that with a movie because they don’t go as in depth as they do in books and I think that’s my biggest problem with it.
I just think that you have to look at it differently at times. Like you can’t compare a book with a film adaptation, you just can’t and then I feel a bit less sad about shitty adaptations.

    • threelittlebirds

i’d rather take a book to movie adaption, than another pointless sequel or remake.

      • March

Yeah, good point. I don’t care where the movie’s inspiration comes from, as long as it’s a good movie.

    • ISeeSparksFly

I understand where you’re coming from. I personally am a visual learner and person in general, so I love seeing my favorite stories come to life through film.

  • amy

The very first thing I thought was, why is it in color? That kind of ruins a lot of the premise of the story…

  • HolyGround

Lol they are honestly smart for putting Tay in this movie too. Judging off of this trailer only, I probably wouldn’t see it if it weren’t for her. Brenton Thwaites is sooo hot though

  • ……

They made this trailer so quickly, i remember taylor was filming this in south africa sometime in October/November. Maybe that’s why the trailer looks so boring, they rushed it

  • Grace

Taylor is in the trailer for like half a second. She has brown hair in it so you wouldn’t recognize her at a glance.

  • http://instagram.com/foreverjordan thesestrangelittlethings

I think it looks pretty good. Granted, I don’t remember much of the book.

  • Caitlin Mary

I actually remember reading this book but it didn’t…stick with me. Interested to see how this plays out, particularly ’cause I love love LOVE Brenton Thwaites, he’d make a great Jonas :D

  • guest

Who cares if you personally think Taylor can’t act. Obviously the casting directors thought she was good enough to portray an emotional character. Don’t judge her acting based on past characters she has played with poor character

  • ISeeSparksFly

Rosemary isn’t that hard to portray, considering she’s pretty skittish after the whole ‘Reciever of Memories’ ordeal. I’m excited to see her with Jeff Bridges though. That’ll be interesting.

The only complaint I have is that Jonas is only supposed to be 12 in the book, but in the trailer, he looks hella older. Other than that, I’m fucking stoked for this movie. The Giver has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

      • Pamela Lansbury

        • wtf even

you didn’t even see anything of her in the trailer, all she did was blink and you passed judgment, sure shes been bad before but your comment made it sound like you actually watched the movie.. damn.
