Lorde posted on Tumblr: ‘bugs me how publications like complex will profile interesting artists in order to sell copies/get clicks and then shit on their records? it happens to me all the time- pitchfork and that ilk being like ‘can we interview you?’

after totally taking the piss out of me in a review. have a stance on an artist and stick to it. don’t act like you respect them then throw them under the bus.’ Complex responds HERE!

Lorde needs to have ALL the seats in Madison Square Garden…like sit down somewhere. Just because a publication gives you a cover or asks for an interview doesn’t mean that, the same publication has to kiss your ass and give you a good review. If they didn’t like your shit they didn’t like your shit. They have every right to think what they want, write what they want in THEIR magazine. Music is subjective.

Lorde is mistaking journalism for PR. PR’s aim is to kiss an artists ass at all times and make everything sound good when it’s not. Journalism is subjective. It doesn’t have to like you. So Lorde, AND Iggy can GTFOH and not act like they didn’t benefit from Complex mag. Get outta here with that Garbage.

“she’s so bigheaded” she’s also 17 so give her a break.

        • Sue

old enough to shut her mouth when needed.

          • lol

not when you’ve been thrown into the world of fame. seriously she just turned 17. if you say you wouldn’t be bigheaded either youre lying.

          • Sue

Well I wasn’t. This is all going to come back at her in the end, she’s burning bridges.

          • lol

lol obviously you werent but if any 17 year old was thrown into fame like her they would be bigheaded too. she’s not burning bridges, she’s gonna learn in time. she wouldnt even be in college yet.

          • yung illuminati

You would’ve thought her publicist would’ve stepped in and said something to her by now imo

          • lol

idk why then. maybe she just runs her mouth? i like what you said above about how time will tell about her attitude. i think shes too young to judge right now, which is what I’m trying to say. i don’t agree with what she said, but she sounds like a regular teenager.

“Lorde needs to have ALL the seats in Madison Square Garden” I read this in Tamar Braxton’s voice haha

  • Sue

She needs to understand it’s nothing personal. It’s a opinion about her music rather then HER. It’s not like PerezHilton, or sites gossip sites that just bash celebs. I would understand her if it was that….but just because pitchfork and complex don’t like her music doesn’t mean they hate her. Maybe they’ll like the material she comes out with next time. Maybe this just wasn’t the journalists cup of tea. Ugh like @aaliyahnoelle said she really needs a seat.

Love lorde and iggy , but reviewers have the right to an opinion of an album. When it comes to reviewers Idgaf if they love or hate an album, they’re opinion doesn’t sway me at all.

It isn’t fair that they get free tickets to concerts just to trash them though

    • Aaliyahnoelle

free tickets isn’t a good reason to give someone a good review. if the concert was shit…free ticket or not…its still shit. no one goes into a concert hoping for the worst.

i would like think the person doing the review would want a good show. if they don’t get one well then they have all rights to express their views as to why they thought so…

  • BangBang

People can respect you but that doesn’t mean that they’re automatically going to like your work.

  • hmmm

People need remember that Lorde is 17

  • Anna

How many artists has she thrown under the bus again?? Practice what you preach and then maybe people will respect you more. If you can have an opinion on other peoples work, so can everyone else. Gosh I try so hard to like lorde, but she makes it very difficult. She just isn’t very likeable.

  • yung illuminati

Honestly, only time will tell if this attitude is her actual personality or just because she’s young and probably a little immature. I think she’s forgetting that magazines feature what’s hot at the moment in order to stay relevant and sell issues, especially complex which is pretty much a culture magazine. That’s how it works. If she really doesn’t like it then she shouldn’t do press anymore, see how far she gets without promo and when no one besides her fan base are talking or reading up about her anymore.

But yeah, like someone else said — music is subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because they put you on the cover it doesn’t mean they need to kiss up to you all the time because they gave YOU publicity.

I keep saying, she’s young & things can be very black & white at that age. She’ll get older & life will happen. She’ll regret being so judgmental. It will come back to bite her in the ass . She’s already looking like a hypocrite. When she loses this self righteous attitude, it’s gonna be hard to just live, because people will be watching her every move, reminding her of all her preachings. It’s very odd that adults think she’s so ‘wise’. She just sounds like the average teen with verbal diarrhea. I guess most celebs hold back, hence why they’re making Lorde out to be more than what she is. But you’d rather keep quiet period, if you’re not gonna be consistent. Really, one moment she’s critiquing edits of her live & posting the actual images & the next she’s modeling for Mac. She already bypassed the ‘teen entertainer’ category. She’s so lucky. Just keep quiet & work girl.

“have a stance on an artist and stick to it. don’t act like you respect them then throw them under the bus.”

I think that’s basically what she’s saying. Stick to what you said the first time and don’t act fake when you actually meet the person.

  • Lij

People here in the comments section misunderstood what she said. She didn’t say anything about how people cannot give bad reviews. She herself is very opinionated and openly critiques others. Her statement is more on the line of her being irritated with those people who give bad reviews but act different when they meet you. Hence her quote, “have a stance on an artist and stick to it. don’t act like you respect them then throw them under the bus.” Being plastic, two-faced, and fake is what irks her.
