Omg he was so adorable look at those cheeks

    Aww too cute.

I was 7 then! Wow, seems like a lifetime ago.

I’m always surprised at how people are not phased that someone goes from blonde to brunette & they didn’t dye their hair. It’s so weird when peoples eye color changes too. I also wonder how a brunette woman & man have a blonde baby & they are not phased by it or both you & your husband have brown eyes but you’re all chilled when your child comes out with blue or green eyes. I would look at that baby & say it is not mine & I can guarantee the husband would say that’s not his baby & want a paternity test. But I’m Indian, so their definitely would be something up. But this happens to white people & I just look at some people & think, are you sure that’s your child?? I’d be paranoid.

    • Marina And My Diamonds

I use to wonder the same thing.
But my little sister was born a red-head. I was born with blue eyes and light skin but by the age of four my eyes turned dark brown and my skin was brown. The only thing that didn’t change was my curly hair. It happens. :)

(I’m Black American by the way.)

If you don’t come from a mixed race family. That is weird as fuck! Omg! But I’m sure it can be traced. I was also born with very weird eyes. Hence why people suspected shit. But they faded. My mum spoke of her grandfather though, who had green eyes & was extremely fair with light hair. So that aided the justification of my existence. But even with him. My mum suspected a mixture of blood. He had sisters who were very dark with black hair & dark brown eyes & his parents looked nothing like him.

Surely you’ve heard of Mendelian genetics and dominant and recessive genes…? You get one gene from each parent and the combination determines your phenotype (physical trait). Blond hair/blue eyes are recessive. So each parent can be brunette with brown eyes but be carriers of the recessive genes. If you get the recessive gene from each of the parents, you’ll be blonde with blue eyes. If both parents are carriers, there’s a 1/4 chance that their kid would have blond hair and blue eyes so it is very possible. The genes for eye color are actually a bit more complex, but yeah that’s the basic idea. Nothing to be paranoid about

Yeah, I have. But it still looks really strange. HaHa. Plus with Indians, majority of the time, that stuff does not happen. So you definitely know shit is up. Like certain genetic traits just didn’t originate with Indians. You definitely know a mixture of race happened somewhere down the line if ever that happens or you’re just paranoid as fuck if there was none that you can make note of. I guess I just picked up the paranoia because people questioned shit about me. Since I didn’t come out dark like my father. But I look exactly like my mother. So that’s dumb as fuck. It’s not like I look like the fucking pool boy :p

Lol well it’s not unheard of for Northern Indians to have fair skin and light eyes actually. Technically, the people in these regions are Caucasoids and Aryans, even though those terms are typically used to refer to White Europeans. So the recessive genes are there and mutations can occur and recessive genes can pop up after generations. I get why you could be paranoid, but you’re not meant to look exactly like your parents or even a perfect blend of the two! Crossing over and independent assortment of genes occur so that we can have genetic diversity. Skin color is determined by the amount of melanin you have and that can vary a lot. Either that or your mama was messing with the pool boy ;P

Sorry I sound like a biology textbook. I just took a Bio final on genes and stuff so it’s all fresh in the mind still lol

          • Tash

Best of luck. I’m sure you’ve done just fine ;) Well I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t have a pool back then, haha. Thanks for the info, btw. It’s interesting though. I didn’t know the skin color thing. I love learning stuff like this :)

No problem. I love teaching stuff like this :)

I was born with black hair and then by the age of 2, I was the lightest shade of blonde. Now that I am 18, my hair is almost brown. I even found a few black hairs recently.
Funny thing is, my mom has dark brown hair while my dad used to be a ginger.
Oh and my sister used to have bouncy curls as a little kid and she has the straightest hair ever now haha

      • Tash

Oh my word! This is all so weird to me. I’ve seen some stuff that I thought was strange but the stories I’m hearing are stuff I never knew off. I guess it is growing up in a mainly Indian community, where we rarely mix race. So it’s all very predictable & stuff like that would have some raised eyebrows & questions. Wow, so interesting. The curly hair thing though isn’t a biggy. My hair was straight, went curly & now is straight again. It has a lot to do with cutting your hair & the elements.

        • laura

You know what’s even weirder? When you have two short parents and all of a sudden, the kid is a freaking giant. That is seriously something I will never understand.
I just miss her curly hair, you know? Her hair was the same as Shirley Temple’s and it was the most adorable thing ever.

          • Tash

That happens a lot with kiddies. My niece had curls. Then we cut her hair & now it’s so straight. It’s actually gorgeous how it sets so nicely & we just can lazily blow it & just comb & it looks great. But the curls are definitely adorable on little ones. HaHa, I always laugh at tiny parents that have giants for children. Those photos are the best! :D But as we know, it all has to do with out ancestry. So genes skip generations & get swapped over all around. So although I still look at people like wtf! I know the possibilities are endless. Like the odds of me being born with this weird blue & lord knows what mixture going on in my eyes & the only other person it can be traced to is my great grandfather. But you no one could figure out how the heck he came out looking the way he did. Well, not without using the word ‘infidelity’ :/ Somebody’s mummy was messing with a white dude. HaHa.
