Lorde ‘My Song ‘Royals’ Is Awful’

lorde-hates-royals (2)lorde-hates-royals (1)Lorde intensely dislikes her song ‘Royals’, which won two Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Lorde told Daily Record: ‘I listen to people covering the song and putting their own spin on it, and I listen to it in every single form except the original one I put out and I realise that actually it sounds horrible.

It sounds like a ringtone from a 2006 (cell phone brand) Nokia. None of the melodies are cool or good. It’s disastrous. Awful.. But for same reason, in the context of the way I released it, it just worked out.’ Do YOU like ‘Royals’ or agree with Lorde that is sounds awful?

  • Tash

This is why I say Lorde has verbal diarrhea. The fact that people actually listen & think it’s ‘wise’ is scary. That’s why it is an absolute necessity to ‘think’ 1st & ‘speak’ 2nd. We were built this way for a reason.

    • Cali

I don’t get what’s wrong with what she said.

    • GentileJewel

Miley is the obvious choice for that term “verbal diarrhea! She even looks like… So is that Demi Bitch!

  • Mary

So what she’s actually saying is people should stop covering royals because she’s the only one that makes it work & not have it be horrible?

    • Tash

Nope. Other way around. She doesn’t like the original. She thinks the covers are better. So she only listens to the covers & not the original.

      • GentileJewel

No! Actually she is right! You just misinterpreted it wrong.

        • -

No, Tash is right. You’re the one interpreting it wrong.

        • trom

actually, she saying that the only way royal sound good is the way she did it, everyone who has covered has sounded horrible, basically she said only her way is the best way. talk about stuck up,, she sound considered all the time. girl you are 17 you havent lived life long enought to even sound wise, shut up

          • Jes

‘I listen to people covering the song and putting their own spin on it, and I listen to it in every single form except the original one.

It clearly states she doesn’t listen to her own song in the way she does it

  • Matt

Lorde do yourself a favor, stop talking. You continuously dig yourself a bigger hole. Heres some advice when your in a hole stop digging. Maybe let your thought swirl around a little bit before saying it. She strikes me as the type that blirts something out and then thinks “Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.”.

    • Lena

Well, that’s your regular seventeen year old girl.

    • Cali

“Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.”.
Well that’s how you learn isn’t it. Nothing wrong with what she said here she’s talking about herself and her music.
I’ll take someone who speaks there mind honestly over some of these fake, ass-licking celebs out right now.

      • Matt

You’re right that’s how you learn. I just think the biggest problem with what she said is that as a salesperson you never want to insult your own product. That makes it harder to sell. At least she didn’t insult Team.

        • GentileJewel

          It is product betrayal!

        • Cali

salesperson? THAT’s why I like what she said. She doesn’t care about all of that she just wants to get better and improve on herself.
She is an artist not a car salesperson.
It’s good she’s acknowledging that something she created could have been better. Actually if GM had acknowledged something was wrong with their product publicly they wouldn’t have had that huge recall a while ago.
team is actually my fav song by her

  • Littlemisssunshiiine

I have hated that song from the start!!
I’m glad she’s agreeing with me!

    • .

      woah cool name

      • Littlemisssunshiiine

        Thanks? I Think.

  • laura

I hate every single song she has written so far, there’s seriously not a single song I can listen to without wanting to cover my ears. Have you ever paid attention to her lyrics? ‘Now wear long sleeves, and the heating comes on. You buy me orange juice. We’re getting good at this. Dreams of clean teeth’ What??
And the worst thing is that now all these artists are doing an even poorer attempt at this music style. When will it stop??
I honestly can’t wait until Lana’s album comes out, finally some decent music.

That being said, Lorde looks like a cool chick she just doesn’t seem to understand the saying ‘practice what you preach’. But she’s young, she’ll learn.

    • HolyGround

Omg I have never understood those lines they confuse me so much

      • Mimi

well orange juice is apparently a term for alcohol in new zealand and her bf is older so I assume she was referring to him buying it for her. Then from my interpretation clean teeth refer to upper class or wealthier people and long sleeves indicate it’s the winter season which explains “and the heating comes on” because she earlier said they are driving in his car so the heating is the heating from the car but yeah some of her lyrics are quite cryptic

        • HolyGround

Ohh thanks it makes more sense now

    • aly

This is why plastic pop songs make success, because people can understand the lyrics that are easier and dumber. While an artist that uses more metaphors and symbolism is rejected because it’s “too hard” to understand. Fact is that Lorde’s songs are not for children and the music industry needs more people like her, people that make lyrics that makes us think, not just dumb stupid lyrics.

      • aly

By the way, when she uses the expressions “white teeth, clean teeth”, she means people that are richer, “cooler”, popular. So she means everyone wants to be a white teeth (this is also stated in the song white teeth teens) but she’s actually criticizing them.

      • laura

Girl, I don’t even listen to pop music.
And I am terribly sorry that I had never heard anyone refer to alcohol as orange juice before, shame on me.
I wasn’t even talking about people copying her use of words, I was talking about people copying her sound. I don’t like her music, nor her lyrics, get over it. I rather listen to rock/punk/whatever. Hell I even listen to Lana but Lorde’s music just annoys the shit out of me, I am very sorry.

  • honesty

She makes herself sound like an idiot.

    • ki

No. She’s actually self-aware about her work and all she wants to do is to improve. It happens a lot with many artists. When they start criticizing their own work it only shows how mature they’ve become and how they want to evolve. People are too stupid to understand this.

      • honesty

No, people aren’t “too stupid” to understand this. She can be self critical in the privacy of her own mind. She doesn’t need to insult her fans in the process. There’s no need to denounce the record that made her successful in the first place. If she wants to be meticulous, which several musicians are, she can follow their lead and stfu, suck it up, and do better the next time. You didn’t see Michael Jackson release a record and call it crap afterward and he was one of the most severe perfectionists around.

        • Cali

“She doesn’t need to insult her fans in the process.”
I’m a fan and im not insulted?
I don’t see how this would insult someone unless they’re like 3 years old lol
I just saw as her publicly choosing to acknowledge that she should could do better. Maybe that could encourage her other fans to have the same mentality.
I personally think song did good only because it had good meaning behind it never really impressed me that much.

You have celebs that are racist and sexist and everyone’s up this girl’s ass for being honest. geez

          • Eva

…. But she is also saying her fans have horrible taste or are stupid to idolise the song in the process isn’t she? Like “that song is horrible I have no idea why you like it” kinda way.

          • Cali

‘I listen to people covering the song and putting their own spin on it,
and I listen to it in every single form except the original one I put
            out.”

Far I see it she’s insulting herself.
I saw it as “i think I could do better for you guys”. Not an insult to people who like it

          • honesty

Silver covered my point. Of course, she isn’t directly insulting them and I didn’t mean to make it seem as dramatic as it sounds, but she gained fans off of that song and to turn around and say that the song is horrible is just a slap in the face. A subtle one, but a slap in the face regardless.

But I totally get where you’re coming from.

          • Eva

            lol

          • honesty

That’s exactly what I was getting at.

          • Eva

I noticed and I decided to put some spice on it. ;)

          • honesty

            Thanks!

  • Cali

I love the fact that she’s so honest with herself. She realizes that some of the stuff she’s put out is not to par and she’s big enough to admit that.
If some singers could get this we wouldn’t have so much crappy music out right now.

  • HolyGround

Aww she looks so pretty in that bottom pic

  • Mel

what a shame ! I HATE when ppl are saying shit about their own stuff ! I wish she was not famous and not rich like she is because of us , die die

  • BangBang

I kind of get what she says. Time passes by and you start looking differently at your work. It’s the same with papers. You might write a paper and think it’s the best thing you’ve ever written and then at the end of the year you find that paper again, you read it and realize that you don’t like it as much as you used to. It’s good that she’s being honest to herself.

  • JoeJonasTroops

lorde is just very open and honest about everything, which is a good thing because she never hints at anything, really expressive about everything to do with her inner most thoughts
