Ariana Grande On Debut Single Music Video ‘The Whole Thing Was Straight Out Of Hell’

Ariana Grande revealed to Rolling Stone about her 2011 debut single ‘Put Your Hearts up': ‘That was the worst moment of my life. For the video, they gave me a bad spray tan and put me in a princess dress and had me frolic around the street. The whole thing was straight out of hell.

I still have nightmares about it, and I made them hide it on my Vevo page.. I hate acting. It’s fun, but music has always been first and foremost with me.’ Did YOU like Ariana’s debut single?

  • sorry to say, Ariana Grande is a fake wannabe, sounding like mariah carrey, its been done before, sorry not a fan, and she sounds like a white woman trying to be black!, not a fan, sorry

    • Cali

“sounding like mariah carrey” LOl you can’t even spell her name right

Just because she loves mariah and and has a great voice doesn’t mean she’s trying to copy her. Mariah is not the only person in the world with a whistle register.

A lot of people compared Mariah to Whitney when she first came out but that doesn’t mean she was copying her.
Mariah did her Let Ariana do what she wants as well -___-

    • Tash

‘White woman trying to be black’???? *raises eyebrow* How so? So is Christina Aguilera trying to be black too?? Is Lenny Kravitz a black man trying to be white?? Race has nothing to do with genre preference. Why are white woman not allowed to be soul singers?? So in your world, only good singers are black & anyone who sounds like that is a wannabe & thus horrid?? That makes no sense. It isn’t even like she tries to be all hip hop & thug life or whatever. It’s fine if you’re not a fan. Don’t try & find ridiculous reasons to justify it.

      • Zaina777

        I guess so…:$

          • Zaina777

Yeah. :) I’ve been back on here for like a week now.

    • ikeepempressedt

Just because she has a soulful voice doesn’t mean she’s trying to be black.

      • Cali

Ikr she can’t control what voice she was born with or music preferences she has

    • Marina And My Diamonds

The sad part is I was waiting for just one just one person to say:
“What’s trying to be black?” She just has a soulful voice not a black one, whatever that means.

  • damnthesecelebs

Yeap it was shit, she wasn’t being herself, that orange tan, the poppy tune..

  • Zaina777

Hey hey hey heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy if we give a little love baby we can change the world…..and maybe we can get a better video overall because this was the shittiest introduction to my music career ever.

She’s lucky she bounced back from that and that she’s now a respected artist. Everything abt that single was a tragic mess.

    • Zaina777

Look how much bigger she was there. She’s so different now in a hotter way though.

Even her face looks different. Idk if it’s the weight loss coupled with a late stage of puberty or something else…but she definitely does look hotter now lol

        • Zaina777

I think she got a nose job as well. That’s what I heard at least. It even looks like she did though.

  • Mary

That video was hysterically bad lol; the spray tan, the dance moves, her facial expressions & the over the top lip syncing just made me lol.

    • Tash

I love when singers can’t lip sync! Most of the time, the best singers can’t lip sync. I’ve noticed that trend. :)

      • Mary

I think its a by-product of her doing theater & Broadway productions when she was younger, so she had to over act the songs. It’s still inexcusable because she was on a tv show with singing so she should’ve been better in that aspect

  • laura

I never understood why they enhanced the vibrance of the colours so much to the point where she looked orange. That is some bad editing..

    • Tash

They wanted to radiate the love :) haha

  • honesty

I knew she would hate this later on. The minute it came out I knew it wasn’t the real her. I mean, she was singing Beyoncé and Alicia Keys in her youtube covers. The label forced her to do this bs. Thank goodness Scooter Braun saved her.

    • honesty

I like the sound of her voice better here though, it’s like a deeper, richer tone. These days she sounds a little more nasally. I love her voice though and I love my Ari no matter what!

      • Tash

I think they purposely write her songs so high. They are trying to suck her dry. They need to chill out. But the public want to hear her belt & go hard from the first note. That’s the crappy part about being a good singer. People always want the major notes & you to basically make your throat bleed. The public need to chill & enjoy simplicity as well as the complexity & skill it takes to travel through your range & do the little riffs & runs.

        • honesty

I love her songs; it’s just that her overall voice has changed. It happens as you mature as a singer. It’s kind of inevitable.

    • Tash

I’m disappointed in Scooter though. I think she’s even better than the material she’s working with. It’s her stunning voice that’s making those tracks good & her recognition is for her vocal ability. Let’s be real too, Justin hit the perfect wave & took advantage of a gap in the market. Scooter gave him an opportunity, that’s it. Ariana was the same. She was already spectacular. He just aided her along. I seriously doubt his ability to actually make a success out of others. The Wanted failed. If he recognized talent, he would have made Nathan a solo artist.

      • honesty

True. I’m not saying scooter is a good manager, he just got her out of a bad record deal where they controlled her and made her do this bs that we have here. He definitely lucked up with Justin. He found him right when he was about to be fired.

  • FuckHarry

I really didn’t like this song I found It so annoying it’s so cliche good thing she recovered from this cause a lot of people didn’t even hear this song.

  • Anon

Tbh, I don’t think the “they” she refers to in the quote necessarily exists. From what I remember, she was really into the 50’s vintage look in (ex: her dancer’s dresses) and outside (ex: her poofy dresses/skirts she used to always wear) of her music. This was such a poorly executed music video. The people who edited it are just as to blame as Ariana because I’m pretty sure the majority of the music video was her idea. Just own up to it, Ari.

    • Tash

This was more Disney princess than vintage to be honest. So I do believe they pushed a bit.

      • a

I agree. There’s nothing vintage about this.

  • asdfgh

    “I hate acting. It’s fun”

    • honesty

I think she really does hate it. She just tries backtrack so she doesn’t offend the people who have her an opportunity in the first place lol. She does this a lot! She just realizes after she’s said it that Nickelodeon is the reason she’s famous.

  • BangBang

That was a mess. She’s lucky people didn’t really care about her back then.

  • Cali

I love the crap out of ariana no one can deny she’s a great singer but I hated the crap out that video and song. Glad she went with what she loved.

  • al

    She is so fake.

  • XaskTaylorX

Be grateful for where you started. But, if she didn’t want to wear these pretty dresses or be in this video like this all she had to do was say no.

    • Anon

AMEN. This is kinda why I stopped liking Ari.

    • Tash

When you’re desperate, you’ll jump at any opportunity. As long as they are not pimping you out, you will do whatever they want. A lot of people will even pimp themselves out. So if someone wants you to wear a princess dress & parade down the street like Santas little helpers, you will have no problem with it. She’s just finally admitting how she really felt about it, now that she has more control & is happy with what she’s doing.

  • johnny

Eh she still is cheesy to me. Like shes very talented but her whole look screams corny and weird to me. Like her dancing and pretty much all her music videos are lacking star quality.

  • what’s goin’ on?

aside from the fact that this video is completely tragic… is this song supposed to sound exactly like 4 non blondes – what’s up (like a ‘sample’ or something) or is it just a blatant rip off??

  • Charlie

I remember her promoting this like crazy now I suppose that was all fake. Typical actress. Can’t believe a word they say.

  • Clauber

She is fake that is all
