Iggy ‘Lorde Is Not Kurt Cobain’s Peer’

iggy-poplorde-iggylorde-scalpersIggy Azalea was not a fan of Lorde’s collaborative performance with the surviving members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 10 in Brooklyn. She told Billboard:

‘Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer. Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.’

Lorde also found out a way to PREVENT TICKET SCALPERS!

cant stand Iggy Azalea. at least after this summer I’ll probably never hear her on the radio or anywhere again :)

anyway. she shouldn’t really have said anything. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all.

I don’t think it was a big deal she made a tribute without being his peer.

First you make a negative comment about Iggy Azalea. Then you say “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all”. ?? Double standards.

        lol. Too true!!

  • Becki Spence

In my opinion Iggy Azalea’s cultural appropriation is not appropriate either. But this is the world we live in… so we’ve just got to deal with it.

iggy is in no right to judge anybody for anything

“Tire marks, tire marks / Finish line with the fire marks / When the relay starts, I’m a runaway slave / Master”

And anyway Lorde is more talented than her any day. And smarter.

  • honesty

That wasn’t nice. She should have said nothing.

  • BangBang

Why isn’t it appropriate? Shouldn’t she be happy that someone who’s that young appreciates the people that were there in the music industry long before her? It’s a tribute, it’s not about who sings it, it’s about remembering Kurt Cobain.

Hmmmm, okay let’s break this down. IF it was only one song being played or Lorde was the only guest accompanying them, then that would have been an odd/random fit. But it was multiple songs with many guests. The way I see it, they wanted to incorporate the past & present at that event. Basically music across the decades. So Lorde seemed a fit since she has made a splash & has been given the thumbs up from critics, with most giving her many great compliments & comparisons to respected artists. It’s hard to find a young, big name that can fit into a Nirvana category. I suppose she was one of the better fits for the gig. So it makes sense. Also a member of Nirvana covered royals for a campaign & I suppose is a fan.

I really like Iggys voice & style. But her songs are not great. I got the album. Fancy is the only hit so far. Some of the others is hard to even get through. I’ve been waiting for it to grow on me …. Still waiting

The only thing I like about fancy is Charli’s part, the beat, and the video. Absolutely very little to do with Iggy herself.

Her forced accent grates me. And most importantly her rhymes are hardly ever good.

She makes nicki minaj sound like tupac.

  • Kurdt Kobain

i agree with iggy, being a huge nirvana fan. i thought kim gordon was the best choice for aneurysm, they were best friends, joan jett fucking killed smells like, but lorde and annie clark weren’t relevant in my opinion, though kurt would have loved that there were all female performers. im not the biggest courtney love fan, but i think she should have sung one of the songs. maybe even kat bjelland from babes in toyland. EDIT: I also forgot to mention that annie and lorde both did amazing jobs while singing with nirvana. i just thought the whole thing would be with people related to them, but the whole set was pretty pleasing and i enjoyed it nonetheless

  • XaskTaylorX

Sorry you weren’t good enough to perform with them? Hatersgonnahate amd bejealous! Just saying.

  • boystan

    i’m seeing lorde in october

  • boystan

    i met lady gaga

  • Eva

I am a huge Jared Leto fan but even I didn’t like it when he covered Kurt. I mean it’s Kurt. As for Lorde, I really don’t get the appeal… well… I guess… meh.
