Zendaya Black Enough To Play Aaliyah?

The 27th Annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in LAZendaya spilled to Splash News about people saying she can’t play Aaliyah because she’s not black enough: ‘A lot of people say I’m not black enough. Half black is just enough. It doesn’t matter what color you are, it’s about how you portray the character.

For those that don’t know, Angela Bassett and Tina Turner, they look nothing alike but she was that character so I think that’s what it’s all about.’ Her dad added: ‘They’re shooting this in the summer. She’ll get dark enough.’

A think shes already proven shes not the best actress

It’s not that she’s not black enough, it’s that she looks absolutely nothing like the girl. If she actually resembled Aaliyah, people wouldn’t be commenting on it.

The main thing is that Aaliyah’s family don’t want this movie to go ahead. All of this other stuff seems to be distraction tactics.

First of all, this is NOT just about black people saying she “isn’t black enough”, and the comparison to Angela Bassett isn’t the same. This is about Hollywood continually letting half-black people or racially ambiguous people portray black people who aren’t even bi-racial in the first place. I’m sick of mainstream media portraying racially ambiguous people as black. It isn’t fair and it isn’t right. And before anyone says anything, there are very few, if any, Black Americans in the U.S. that are “100%” black. So don’t try to come at me with the “Aaliyah wasn’t even all black anyway” excuse.

People weren’t saying that, that’s not why they didn’t want her to get the role. This was not about race and skin tone.

Lol, she definitely will be dark enough if it’s being shot in the summer. And for the people bringing race into this need to shut their mouths; she looks NOTHING like Aaliyah, but I’m so sick of us biracials (specifically being black and white) not being “good enough” for any of our races. If you have a problem with her ethnicity, go cry about it to someone who cares.

I would not feel okay doing this movie knowing that the girl’s family is against it.
