While everyone else partied in Los Angeles at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, there were a few Canadians that opted to attend the 45th Annual JUNO Awards. The Weeknd came out the biggest winner of the night, receiving five awards and beating Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Drake for “Album of the Year.”
Though not at the ceremony, Justin Bieber took home the award for both “Pop Album of the Year” and “Fan Choice,” where he received boos for not showing up to his home country for the show. Adele also took home two Juno Awards, but unlike Justin she was not booed.
Alessia Cara not only won her first JUNO “Breakthrough Artist of the Year,” but the singer opened up the show with performances of “Here” and “Wild Things.” Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd also took the stage to perform for the audience.
