Selena Gomez Announces Sudden Break From World Tour Due To “Anxiety And Depression”

Selena Gomez Takes Break Because of LupusLate this afternoon in a surprise announcement, Selena Gomez informed her fans that she will be taking time off to focus on her health. The singer released an exclusive statement to PEOPLE citing “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” as a few of the recent side effects from her lupus that has forced her to become “proactive and focus on maintaining” her health.

While the singer has not released a statement regarding the official cancellation of the “Revival Tour” tour dates have been removed from the singer’s website.

“Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best,” she wrote in her statement.

A source tells PEOPLE that the singer’s break has nothing to do with any type of alcohol or substance abuse. Rather, Selena is just not feeling like herself.

Rumors have swirled during Selena’s world tour that she might be struggling with some unidentified personal situation. In late May, reports surfaced of the singer crying during a concert in Montreal, but that was chalked up to an interaction with fans. Then, in July, while on stage at a concert in Jakarta on her birthday, Selena was captured in some fan video footage seeming to break down before a performance of “Kill Em With Kindness.”

The next day, rumors increased as Selena published a rambling and at times cryptic post revealing that she was feeling “unauthentic” and “unconnected,” at a time when she also received backlash on social media for statements that attempted to defend friend Taylor Swift.

With the remaining tour dates no longer listed and the “Revival Tour” seemingly over, this could possibly leave DNCE to join Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato on the “Future Now Tour” or work on the full album release that the band continues to push back.

How do you feel about Selena taking some time off?

I was gonna make a joke out of this until I read it’s due to her lupus so nevermind.

  • Kristianak

    Where are you thecat???

You called this when the tour was announced. Has she ever finished a tour properly?

    Lupus my ass. FOH

    • stfu

Do you have her medical historic? Do you know what goes on her life? You know nothing. So you’re nobody to judge if she has something or not.

      • Kristianak

Tell your fave to lay off the cocaine babe.

        • stfu

cocaine doesn’t make people stop tour if it did no rock star would tour

        • huh

          cocaine don’t stop tours
          rock stars wouldn’t tour then

          • Kristianak

Come one now. You know what I mean. Selena obviously can’t handle cocaine the way Lemmy or other rock stars did in the 60s, 70s or 80s… Even now. Even though eventually it all got too much for rock stars too, the difference is back then Duff or Slash could pass out on stage and no one would care because it was the norm.

But squeaky clean Selena can’t do that, so she is sent to rehab or wherever pop princesses go when they are out of control. I don’t buy the Lupus story.

          • huh

You could be right but you could also be wrong. Selena has been in a lot in hospitals over the years. So don’t go running your mouth when you don’t have the full information

          • Deena

Agreed. there’s no evidence of cocaine – where is that accusation from? Partying maybe, esp given some of the behind the scenes photos of the tour. But lupus doesn’t sound like a joke to deal with and I do believe Selena probably has suffered a lot from the disease.

          • Kristianak

What was it that Selena said about Black Lives Matter?
            Hmmm….
            “I could give two fucks…”

It’s sad that people still think that Selena doesn’t have Lupus. I will say it again because people seem to not have gotten it through their thick heads. Celebrities like Nick Cannon, Toni Braxton and Paula Abdul, they also have Lupus and to them it’s attacked them in different ways. Seal also has lupus and although for him he had skin blisters which left a permanent mark on his face. Lupus attacks the body in different ways, it can either be evident on your skin or it can be in your bones/joints and it can also attack your organs. And a lot of people have been saying “you don’t need chemotherapy” ummm actually if you look it up you’ll find that there are different ways to treat it, although they don’t have a cure yet. Chemotherapy is one of the treatments that help ease it. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean that the person isn’t sick. Nick Cannon for example, you wouldn’t know he has it unless you go on his instagram or you actually look it up. Basically anyone can get lupus and most cases have been of women but It’s mainly evident in women who have a Hispanic, Asian, African-American and Native American heritage. Paula Abdul gave up dancing coz it was getting tiring for her and her joints were swelling up and stuff coz she was straining herself by excessive movement that’s why Selena had to draw back on the choreo for the tour. And also, a person with Lupus CAN drink. There are cases where the doctor can tell you not to drink because of the current state of your body but unless you have been told not to drink then there’s no reason why you can’t drink. Honestly, I’ve done so much research on this that my heart goes out to anyone who has lupus or who has a family member or friend that has it because basically once you’re diagnosed that’s it. It either goes away or it’ll stay with you forever because it is a chronic disease after all.

          • Kristianak

I can tell that you have done so much research about it, you really don’t have to convince me. It is evidenced quite clearly by your unrestricted need to share all this unsolicited information.

          • GentileJewel

You are a disturbed and sick person!

        • Nick Garcia Crawford

people in the industry know she does coke and a lot….you just have to see her on stage lately

    • thecat61

Thanks for reminding me…I forgot all about that. She can’t do a full tour. Doesn’t she have another album coming out soon? Is she planning on doing another tour after that?

      • Kristianak

I think it was you yeah, or someone else… But someone definitely mentioned that her tour would be cancelled before she even started it!

        • thecat61

Whatever the case may be she needs to stop her partying….this only exacerbates her illness.

      • Carla

SHE CAN USE THE TIME OFF TO GET SINGING LESSONS!! SELENA CAN’T SING TO SAVE HER LIFE! HER VOICE IS VERY WEAK AND SHE’S PITCHY!!

        • thecat61

She already did that before and it didn’t work and stop yelling…lol

  • then

She did 48 concerts for the 2011-2012 tour.
55 for the Stars Dance Tour
    54 for this current one.
Her team shouldn’t book more than 50 concerts. She wont tour again tho she will not find sponsors

    • Deena

This is what i was thinking too. I believe at least one of those tours also would have been affected by the first incident of lupus (and bieber’s meltdown period too). Maybe that was the 2012 tour? Either way, it feels like she hits a breaking point somewhere around 50 concerts.

I still feel for her. Hearing about lupus, it sounds like a pretty draining condition.

    • ya

There is not even need to book more. That’s not like she sell everything out. Just choose the cities where there is more demand, I bet it would even to be more profitable. It can be too late tho, she is now a risky investment for tour sponsors and promoters

  • moa

I believe she has lupus but also that she doesn’t take proper care of herself. She parties and drinks a lot, book concerts one after other with almost no day off, when she has time off she is doing photoshoots. Since her Disney show ended she never looked happy again. She needs stability. Going back to TV would be the best for her.

  • daniel b

Im praying for her my cousin had lupus she took her own life because she coudint take the pain from it.i hope she can find a treatment for her anxiety and depresion.usualy medical marihuana helps but shes got lupus so i dont know if would help her.

  • MollyBD

Alcohol and drugs only make Lupus worse.

    • fact

According with the info that the Good Morning America show got she has the disease since 2009. There is a reason it started to flare up nonstop these past few years and that’s her new lifestyle and excesses.

  • guest

1.Her tour was flopping and losing money again and they had to end early again.

2.Her cocaine use is out of control again.

    • lms

she had no behavioral problems with her crew or fans, never missed a commitment, never was late for a concert or had to cancel so no, I don’t believe in “out of control” drug problem.

  • carla

Selena Gomez needs to take some time off. Some uneducated people say that she isn’t ill and some are mad at her. You guys need to respect her decision !!! She needs to do an effective cure. Doing a tour means stress and stress isn’t for someone who has lupus. You guys need to educate yourselves a bit more. People need to let Selena alone. I wish her the best ! A lot of health, happiness and joy in her upcoming years. I know she has a great team who understand her and respect her. That’s important. God bless Selena and when she comes back she’s stronger than before.

  • no name

people attacking Sel on something so personal honestly makes me so frustrated, Im ready to slap some of them so they can get some sense in them thick ass heads.

  • real truth

Selena Gomez went taken to a Iluminati reprogramming

  • real truth

Selena Gomez wasn’t showing any odd behavior indicating no sobriety or any signal of an iliness serious enough to stop a tour. But she did tweet the Industry was disappointing and had been criticizing the entertainment business on her interviews. Iluminate took Selena down.

  • IDK

I must be the only one who thinks she is just being a lazy spoiled mofo. Drug use? If so nothing points this being so severe that she couldn’t complete the tour and she would be back just in October, time enough to get clean. Lupus flare? She has looked the more healthy she had in years. Her label had not problem with it because it wasn’t selling that great
