Billed as “fall’s wildest tourmates,” Halsey and Charli XCX are splitting cover duties for the latest issue of Billboard. As the headliner and opener duo prepares for Halsey’s September tour kick off, they apparently got really drunk after performing a “Spice Girls” cover and dished on just how messy they like to get together.
“Part of our brand is ‘hot mess,’” Halsey tells the interviewer. “Being authentic. ‘Yeah, it’s 5 a.m., and I’m wasted and I’m fucking doing that.’ So if I look like shit on a certain day…” Halsey trails off before Charli chimes in: “It’s my brand!” Halsey and Charli seem eager to position themselves as pop’s new turn up queens, but not without reservations.
“I’m scared, because I’ve been sober on every tour I’ve ever done,” Halsey explains. “And I’m not going to be with Charli there.” While Charli thinks that’s a good think, Halsey went on, “I’m neurotic. I had a really bad experience. We did Madison Square Garden and it was a sold-out show, the biggest of my career, and three songs in, everything stopped: tracks, lights, video. Everything failed, because there was one wire unplugged.”
“If I was fucked up when that happened, I don’t know what I would’ve done,” Halsey says. Sounds like one bad night on the “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom” tour could really spiral out of control. Despite her concerns, Halsey still seems eager to spend the fall partying across the world with Charli. Exactly what kind of drunk antics will the duo be getting up to?
Charli offered up one option: “We want to start a rollerblading squad where we all learn to skate around the arenas every day. We’re going to get the full outfit: kneepads, elbow pads.” Halsey promised the duo would “blade onstage” at some point, and Charli told her the choreography would involve “holding you up by the crotch.” Halsey and Charli shared plenty of laughs throughout the interview, but also tok a chance to get serious about Halsey’s mental health.
