Lauren Jauregui is becoming pop music’s most vocal activist and in a recent interview with Out Magazine, the singer shows no signs of letting up. It took some years to find herself–with no help from over-analytical Harmonizers–but the out-and-proud pop star now has the courage to stand up for those who can’t do it for themselves.
“It’s good to be an anarchist and just love yourself. That’s the most rebellious thing you can do right now,” Lauren tells the publication.
Being the outspoken artist that she is, Lauren admits that she still has people that attack her sexuality. “People still talk shit, but it’s like, why does it make you feel gross?” she asks before adding, “you can watch a kid get bombed and not do anything about it, but you can’t watch me kiss my girlfriend? Go fuck yourself.”
It’s not just strangers that fill Lauren’s Twitter mentions with negativity, but also record label execs who advised her to keep her personal life private.
“A lot of artists are held back by the notion that they’ll lose their fan base or alienate themselves,” Lauren reveals.
Luckily, the singer’s days of giving a damn are long gone and she can focus on being the artist breaking the social norms in music like those before her.
