Camila Cabello kicked off this year’s Billboard Women in Music award show with a performance of her chart-topping single “Havana.” The former Fifth Harmony member took the stage for a simplistic live rendition of the song, backed only by a trio of instrumentalists.
Following her performance, Diplo entered the stage to present Camila with Billboard’s “Breakthrough Artist” award. “The stage is clearly set for a debut solo album in 2018,” he said, knowing that Camila’s album is actually done.
Camila then accepted the award with a moving speech dedicated to her mom.
“The only reason I’m standing here on this stage, in this auditorium, and on this soil and in this country is because of one woman and that’s my mom,” she said, later adding that she has “the most incredible example of what it means to be a woman.”
“This is for my mom,” Camila concluded.
