Demi Lovato’s main backup dancer and choreographer, Dani Vitale, took to Instagram in the last few hours to post a response to fans upset with her for the role her birthday party may or may not have played in Demi’s alleged overdose last week. Dani wrote, “I care about Demi just like all of you do. I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance … I was not with Demi when the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me.”
Dani later goes on to add, “Remember that you have always been a community of Lovatics whe LOVE. Please remember that when you take out your phones and start typing.”
Dani has come under heavy criticism from Demi’s fans since news of the popstar’s apparent overdose became public. Many Demi fans seem to feel that the choreographer, whose birthday party Demi reportedly attended the night before the incident, should not have encouraged or even exposed Demi – a person with a documented history of past substance abuse – to any sort of heavy partying. Other fans, in spite of the limited number of details publicly available, felt that Dani should have somehow done more to help the popstar after the incident occurred.
Dani’s comments seem to be an attempt to set the record straight, at least on the second point, by denying that she was with Demi at the time of the incident – and therefore was not in a position to help. The post also seems to be a plea, more generally, for Demi’s fans to not take their concern and anger about the singer’s current condition out on her. The choreographer’s full statement can be found below.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT DANI’S POST? DO YOU BELIEVE SHE SHOULD BE OPEN TO ANY CRITICISM, EVEN IF SHE WASN’T “WITH DEMI WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED?”
