Halsey Responds to Backlash Over Sexy “Girl-on-Girl” Performance on ‘The Voice’ Season Finale

Halsey VoiceHalsey returned to NBC’s flagship reality TV vocal competition The Voice for the series big season Finale to perform her hit “Without You.” Earlier, Halsey had appeared as a guest coach / mentor on the series. But that return has turned out unexpectedly to be one of the most controversial performances in the show’s history.

Halsey performed her song with a sexy dance routine partnered by a woman; the two wore similar underwear-like costumes while dancing a suggestive, romantic routine. However, it was not unlike what many sexy modern dance routines look like when partnered by a man and a woman all the time on shows like Dancing With The Stars.

We have some videos of the performance below.

Many, including apparently NBC, was unprepared for the flood, over the last two days, of criticism relating to two women having a romantic live dance on primetime TV. Even in a time when a performer like Halsey can openly describe herself as bisexual, commenters on social media labeled the performance “disgusting,” “obscene” and “vulgar.”

Halsey responded directly to the social media outrage, thanking NBC for its willingness to air a dance between two women. “Very proud of the emotional performance I did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight,” Halsey tweeted in one of her posts. “And also proud to have pissed off thw homophobic viewers at home who missed the message.”

Interestingly, provocative gender-bending British performer Yungblud — who rumors have increasingly linked to Halsey as a potential collaborator and possible even romantic interest — chimed in on Halsey’s comments. “[H]ere f**kin here,” Yungblud tweeted; he also added a heart emoji.

We have some footage from Halsey’s sexy performance, an ET Canada video report on the controversy and the tweets from Halsey and Yungblud.
