Ariana Grande teased the name of her next single and its released date on social media. But earlier today Vulture.com stitched together the various facts from previously published stories in an article that told the true life post-breakup story upon which Ariana’s upcoming single is based.
Basically, after a “bad day” following her break up with ex-fiance Pete Davidson, six of Ariana’s friends took the pop singer out for some retail therapy at Tiffany’s New York flagship store. Once there, Ariana began sipping champagne while looking at jewelry with her friends in one of private areas of the store reserved for wealthy families or well known people. And Ariana proceeded to get very drunk.
“You know how when you’re waiting at Tiffany’s they give you lots of champagne?,” Ariana reportedly told a reporter from Billboard at the time. “They got us very tipsy, so we bought seven engagement rings, and when I got back to the studio I gave everybody a … ring.”
Later Ariana also admitted that she bought to more rings and secreted them away as later gifts. One was for her mother, and the other for her Nonna.
But the experience of giving one engagement ring back and then buying engagement rings for herself and six of her best friends in a moment of drunken girl-power-bonding and consolation led Ariana to write a song that she has entitled, understandably, “7 rings.” Vulture points out that there is at least one tease for the song in the “Thank U, Next” video (the title of the forthcoming track appears on a license plate).
Along with the song’s title and some artwork, Ariana has posted the release date as January 18th. And from a couple other pics on Instagram, it looks like she has been recording the video as well.
