Earlier today, Lauren Jauregui dropped her latest offering as a solo artist, “More Than That.” In an act of interesting timing, Lauren released the R&B-influenced single on the same day as her former Fifth Harmony bandmate Normani dropped her own R&B collab with UK singer Sam Smith. Lauren’s song, by comparison, is a little less retro, and a little more straightforward contemporary R&B.
Lauren’s song seems to have performed well on iTunes during its first day out, though not as well as Normani’s song. “More Than That” cracked the top 20 on the worldwide iTunes song chart peaking at No. 14, while Normani’s “Dancing with a Stranger” remained at the No.1 position throughout the day. Of course, Sam Smith’s name recognition and fanbase probably did a lot to help “Dancing with a Stranger” with its strong first day launch.
Lauren’s song, however, did pick up quite a few rave reviews from music critics. Rolling Stone called the song “intoxicating” and “assertive,” while MTV.com described “More Than That” as a “swaggering, hypnotic flex.”
