‘Riverdale’ Shuts Down Production on News of Luke Perry’s Death While Castmates Struggle with the Loss

Luke Perry RiverdaleVariety reports that executives at The CW temporarily shut down production on the hit series Riverdale following news of the tragic death of actor Luke Perry. Luke, who was 52, played thh role of Archie’s father Fred Andrews. Luke reportedly died this morning after previously suffering a sudden stroke.

Riverdale executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jon Goldwater released a statement in conjunction with The CW and Warner Brothers. In addition, Luke’s present cast mates and previous Hollywood costars took to social media to express feelings ranging from shock to devastation. 

The statement from Riverdale’s executive producers summed up much of the thoughts expressed by Luke’s other friends, family and colleagues.

We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all.”
