Outrage by some parents over statements about children who need gluten-free diets that were made on the Disney Channel show 'Jessie' has led the company to pull the episode off the air. Disney: 'To our viewers, we received your feedback about tonight's 'Jessie' episode which some of you accessed early on Video-on-Demand.
We are removing this particular episode from our regular programming schedule and will re-evaluate its references to gluten restrictions in the character's diet. Please accept our apologies for the upset this episode caused you and your family. We value your feedback and thank you for watching Disney Channel.'
'Jessie' episode 'Quitting Cold Koala' revolved around a teen nanny who was tasked with taking care of a child named Stuart, who needs a gluten-free diet. Several jokes are made about his condition, including the main character Jessie pointing out that Stuart had a five-page list of his dietary requirements.
'You call me sweetie again, and you'll be eating some gluten-free knuckles.' one character says to Stuart after he gets her a gift. Another gag has a child throwing pancakes at Stuart as he screams 'gluten!' and wipes his face. 'He makes me look macho,' another child who sees the incident, says.
Some viewers who have been personally affected by celiac disease, which requires patients to be treated with a gluten-free diet, were outraged about the show's glibness towards the disorder. 'There were tears in my daughter's eyes, and my son's fist was clenched (when they were watching the episode),' Amy Raslevich told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
'The first year (after diagnosis) was literally like a death. That's the best way for me to describe it. They went through all of the stages of grief. There's nothing else that they can do, and they aren't going to outgrow it. It was tough, and it still is.' Miley Ray Cyrus claims to suffer from a Gluten allergy and/ or Celiac disease.

Debby Ryan told MTV: 'I have all of these songs I've written over the course of some time, especially in the last month. I'm putting together in my home studio. My brother is an amazing producer, one of my best friends is an incredible songwriter and really liked my lyrics, and we worked together and ended up writing about 12 songs now for the record, and I think it's going to come out the end of the summer, which I'm excited about..
If Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and the Lumineers, and Mumford & Sons, and April Smith and the Great Picture Show, and the Hush Sound, and Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry and Tom Petty all had a baby in a carnival in the Old West, that's what the record will sound like.
Katy Perry, it's fun and aspirational. It's OK to get lost in youth and the fun elements of being a teenager and being a person who wants to just tell stories and fall in love and try things and be stupid and be smart. At the end of the day, not wreck your life, but also not draw yourself into a box.
I think Demi Lovato has an absolutely incredible sense of self and always did, from rock and roll to R&B, and now she's pop, pop, pop. And she is an incredible vocalist; she is one of the best vocalists of our generation, hands down. And so, for her to be able to go out and say,
'Hey, these are my struggles,' and before that, 'This is what I think is cool; this is what's hard,' and had just been candid the entire time, and I think that that's a really cool thing. She balances music that the 13-year-olds and people that used to watch "Sonny [With a Chance]" like with things that adults jam to and cry to.'
