Nat Wolff chatted with Us Weekly about his R-rated Behaving Badly costar Selena Gomez: 'Selena is such a big star on a level that I'd never been around. At [the] time [we were filming], she was dating Justin Bieber, so it was insane, like, the amount of people who'd be around.. but she handled it with such grace and had such focus as an actress. If that ever happens to me, I have a good example in her of how to handle it.
I think because I live in New York and I still play basketball, and I still go to real high school, it's been easy for me to balance acting and music with just being a regular 18-year-old. A lot of young people who want to get into the business want to be famous, and it's good for what it is, but it's really transient, and it's not something to strive for. The work is the most important.'
'People talk about how if you play guitar, you get girls. And I play guitar and that didn't seem to do much, but the ventriloquism has really helped in the lady department. If there's a girl I want to impress, bring out the dummy. It's either going to work really badly or work well.'
Selena's new single 'Come & Get It' will be released digitally April 9.
Nat Wolff Hollywood Reporter interview: 'I had parents in the business and they made sure that the art was the biggest concern. Because they’ve both been famous and then not famous and then famous, and they say that stuff goes in and out and you have no control over it.. If you’re going for [fame], you’re going to get lost. And I think a lot what happens to teen stars, and what happens to people, and they get just lost.'
Nat referred to the dark comedy Behaving Badly costarring Selena Gomez as 'Ferris Bueller on crack' and praised Selena for handling the leap from Disney tween princess to more adult fare with aplomb: 'She’s not like that [referring to fame-hungry teen stars] And she was famous on a level that I never was. She’s famous on a superstar level that I don’t know will ever go away, and she’s made a transition to doing more films that are R-rated. Spring Breakers and this movie I’ve done with her, and she’s done it seamlessly. She’s a good person and I think just a really good actress and I think that separates who makes it.'
The Naked Brothers ended after his family and Nickelodeon disagreed on the future of the series. 'It was a confusing thing, it wasn’t really canceled. They wanted us to do a couple movies for them, but we didn’t really want to do that. Or, they wanted us to do 60 episodes during the school year, but my parents wanted us to go to school, so we couldn’t do that. They didn’t want to keep doing what we were doing.
I was super bummed when I found out, but in retrospect I’m really glad that happened, because I was on the edge of getting burnt out. The first two seasons, we were all really, it was my best friends in the worlds and we were just hanging out. And by the third season, I was really taking it seriously.'
