Katy Perry closed down BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Saturday night. The festival went on as scheduled after tragedy struck Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester. Katy, much like throughout the week, carved out time from her setlist to acknowledge the victims and curate a compassionate environment.
“I think that you guys are extremely beautiful and I think that we’re all extremely brave,” she said to the festival-goers. “We are all in this together, aren’t we? You know what? We will still dance, we will still sing, we will still make music. This next one goes out to Manchester and to all the people who know what it means to love music and be a community because of it.”
Before playing an emotional acoustic version of “Part of Me,” Katy had everyone in the crowd reach out to their neighbors. “This is a part of us they will never take away,” she continued. “Rest in peace, Manchester.”
