With several collaborations under her belt, Rihanna is no stranger to the world of Dior. Most recently, Dior announced a partnership with Rihanna’s Harvard Humanitarian of the Year award-winning nonprofit, The Clara Lionel Foundation. A percentage of the proceeds from 2017’s “We Should All Be Feminists” t-shirt sales will be given directly to the foundation. Rihanna’s close ties with Dior is likely how she secured a front row spot at the brand’s Fall/Winter Womenswear show Friday afternoon at Paris Fashion Week.
Rihanna’s wardrobe choice for the event was simple enough to read into as a bold statement. She wore a dark navy wool coat and hid behind a pair of black sunglasses, both attributed to the Dior name, a name historically known for making political statements during fashion shows. That little factoid brings Rihanna’s black leather beret into the foreground of a much larger conversation. Many believe the accessory paired with Rihanna’s familiar militant clothing to quietly tribute the uniform and respective connotations of the Black Panther Party.
