Katy Perry’s new era has been defined more by scandal than chart success. The singer has been catching heat time and time again since launching her “Witness” campaign. Whether she’s accusing Niall Horan of creeping or bringing alleged homophobes Migos on the “Saturday Night Live” stage with drag queens, Katy’s new 2013 Miley Cyrus image can’t stop making the wrong kind of headlines.
Katy is apparently offending the drag community again, and this time, drag queens aren’t defending her. In fact, one is leading the charge against her. In two days of tweets, Vicky Vox has alleged that Katy has been “begging” drag queens to appear in a music video for her free of charge. Vicky took to Twitter to lambast Katy for asking queens to shoot with her “for two days with no pay.”
That was the first tweet in a thread from Vicky, in which she exposed the fact that Katy’s team was rejected by a ton of Los Angeles queens who refused to work for free. Vicky said that several contestants from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” might’ve agreed to do Katy’s video, but the “local girls” wouldn’t do it just for the exposure.
“Do you think we just like to prance around for sugarplum dreams?” Vicky asked in the angriest of her tweets. “Bitch, THIS IS FUCKING WORK.” She went on to claim she has receipts of conversations with Katy’s team. She never mentioned Katy by name in her original tweets, but she got back online the next day and her subtweets got a lot less subtle.
