Liam Payne has been sharing a lot as he promotes the release of his solo single. He’s already dished on his thoughts about other One Direction solo efforts. Now, in an interview with Billboard, he’s opened up about how “Strip That Down” and his solo career almost never happened.
“To be honest with you, I wasn’t going to do a solo venture,” Liam said. “I was just going to go into songwriting and carry on and do that. But then I was like, ‘You’ve been trying to do this since you were 14 years old. You would be ridiculously stupid to turn down the option to have a deal.’ Coming out of the band, we had some pretty good opportunities around us. I had to do something.”
One of those opportunities was coming from a regular 1D collaborator. Liam explained how a call from Ed Sheeran had him globetrotting to start a solo career he wasn’t even sure about.
