Zendaya may not do activist work for the awards, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to stop getting them. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is about to give her one, according to a new announcement from the organization.
Zendaya will be honored at a gala event by the organization next month. She’ll be given the Gamechanger Award, a special honor for the next generation of leaders engaged in social justice work. At 21 years old, she’s the right age for GLSEN to say she’s on the cutting edge of activism.
Zendaya’s work doesn’t always focus on LGBTQ issues, but she’s been a vocal supporter of transgender rights in recent months. She’s got a history of LGBTQ advocacy in the past, too.
As early as 2013, she was wearing purple to help GLAAD celebrate Spirit Day. She also went out of her way to make sure her clothing line was gender neutral.
