Better Luck Next Time, Halsey! Nicki Minaj Is Claiming “The Kingdom”

Halsey Usurped! Nicki Minaj Is Claiming The KingdomHalsey’s upcoming sophomore album, “hopeless fountain kingdom,” has had her playing with a lot of royal themes. The singer has repeatedly promised to see her fans “in the kingdom” as she’s dived headfirst into her new era, complete with her directorial debut. But another big name artist’s recent decision about her fandom could have fans confused about how to get to to Halsey’s royal domain–and who the queen will be when they arrive.

Halsey Usurped! Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui Is Featured On Halsey's hopeless fountain kingdom featureHalsey’s unconventional album promotion continued on Friday as she released her new album’s track list. The singer’s sophomore effort, “hopeless fountain kingdom,” already had its cover art revealed with a scavenger hunt. Now, she’s dropped the track list off in a fake newspaper called “The Kingdom Times” on certain fans’ doorsteps. Even one of her fans was a little exasperated by the method.

Halsey Makes Directorial Debut In Grisly “Now Or Never” Music Video

Halsey Makes Her Directorial Debut With Now Or Never Music Video featureHalsey dropped the first single off of her upcoming album on Tuesday. “Now Or Never” marks fans’ first chance to hear what “hopeless fountain kingdom” will sound like. It’s only one song to go off of, but the track is moody and reminiscent of Rihanna’s “Needed Me.” Coupled with the R&B-infused slow jam is a new music video that Halsey is calling her “directorial debut.” She apparently had a ton of creative control in the 6-minute visual. Her fingerprints are all over the video with its tarot, ’90s-era “Romeo and Juliet” vibes and even the little bit of “Mad Max: Fury Road” feel.

Halsey Makes Her Directorial Debut With Now Or Never Music Video instagram post 1Things go bad for Halsey’s character and her Romeo when one family takes aim at another. An epic firefight ensues, confirming the predictions of the medieval oracle in the video’s interlude. There’s room for the story to develop further as Halsey escapes and adds her trademark from other projects to the end of the video: a drastic haircut.
