Nick Jonas Reassures “Jumanji” Fans That The Sequel Will Respect The Original

jumanji nick jonasIn a recent interview with The National, Nick Jonas decided to address some of the criticism about his upcoming film, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” head on. While fans are excited about the movie, many are afraid of the sequel possibly ruining the beloved original.

“What is great about the new film is the respect for the original,” Nick notes. “We love that film and we wanted to make sure that everyone knows that it is a continuation of that story. I think it will be a fun film for everybody.”

As a fan of the original, Nick added that he approached the modern retelling with reverence.

“I remember when I first got the call that they wanted me to read for it I was blown away, because I was a huge fan of the original films which, off course had Robin Williams who was so amazing in that,” he explains.

The film is set to hit theaters December 20.

The First “Jumanji” Trailer Is Here, But Where TF Is Nick Jonas?

The First Jumanji Trailer Is Here, But Where TF Is Nick JonasThe first official trailer for “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” has arrived and it raises an unexpected question given the amount of on-set photos and videos shared by the cast during production: how big of a role does Nick Jonas actually have? If the first trailer is any indication, Nick is nothing more than a split-second character in what fans are hoping won’t destroy the legacy of the original 1995 film with Robin Williams.

As it turns out, the legacy will likely remain in tact as the upcoming film is a sort of modern-day continuation to the tune of “The Breakfast Club.” The original movie brought the perilous tropics of “Jumani” into the real world, but the new flick transports a batch of detention-going teens out of the real world and into the savage land of “Jumanji” as adults.

Nick’s character, Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough, is a random person the body-swapped students encounter along the way. “He’s a mysterious stranger that they meet in the midst of their adventure,” director Jake Kasdan says to Entertainment Weekly. “At first, they’re not sure what to make of him, but he becomes a part of their effort to get out.”

The singer’s ultra-brief cameo in the trailer might not make it seem possible for his character to have that big of a role, but it does show that Nick—or “Seaplane”—learned a few things about surviving from his time with Bear Grylls.

“Nick really embraced the jungle,” Jack Black adds to the director’s statement to ET. “Like, Nick Jonas would disappear for a few days and just be on a real physical adventure. He’d come back with bumps and scrapes and bruises and a big smile on his face because he’d traversed some impossible mountain scape and came down the other side of the mountain on like a zipline.”

Spoiler Alert! Nick Jonas Is Keeping His Shirt On In The “Jumanji” Movie

Spoiler Alert! Nick Jonas Is Keeping His Shirt On In The Jumanji Movie featureApparently, the upcoming “Jumanji” movie isn’t going to be too wild. A Swedish journalist confirmed as much in a tweet in which he claims Nick Jonas told him that his shirt stays on through the whole film. Officially called “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” Nick stars in the movie, but his body doesn’t.

Nick has been getting seriously ripped lately. The singer spends a lot of time at the gym and is turning into a certified, Grade A beefcake. Apparently his meat isn’t ready for the display case as he won’t be showing it off in his new movie.

To be fair, Nick is paired up against one of the most muscular leading men in Hollywood. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the reigning “Sexiest Man Alive,” and his hunky “Baywatch” co-star Zac Efron was proud to bow down. Looks like Nick should be taking notes from Zac on humility when it comes to comparing himself to the former pro wrestler.

Check out the tweet from the Swedish journalist below, plus see Nick’s Instagram stories from Barcelona, Spain with his “Jumanji” co-star Jack Black.

In a brief interview with E! News, the singer may have revealed that there is a possibility that he could be headed back to the stage to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in “Bye Bye Birdie.”

“I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not,” the actor said. “I love Jen, but we’ll see. I’m not sure. It could happen.” During an interview on “Watch What Happens Live,” Jennifer told host Andy Cohen that Nick was her top choice for the role of Conrad Birdie for the NBC live musical production.
