Lauren Jauregui is co-signing a musical petition started by Cole Whittle’s former Semi-Precious Weapons bandmate Justin Tranter. The songwriter took to Instagram to challenge male songwriters and A&Rs to give female writers more opportunities, especially if they’re writing a song for young women.
“Besides the fact that a bunch of middle aged men writing sex/love songs for young women is kinda creepy and sending the wrong lyrical messages to young people everywhere,” Justin wrote. Lauren reposted his message and the feminist was all for more equality in the recording industry. “PREACHHHHH,” she captioned the reposted photo.
Justin, himself, has written countless songs for artists like DNCE, Halsey, JoJo and Fifth Harmony and says women being involved in the writing process gives a more “relatable and real” perspective. “Not only will it give opportunities to the brilliant women who deserve them, but the songs will reach new levels.”
